Late Deafened Hearing Loss Research Study
I've attached a research study for those that are interested. Some of the criteria: Candidates must be between 60 and 80, and have had hearing loss for at least 10 years. These studies allow researchers to get a feel for what it's like to live with hearing loss.

Thanks for posting this research opportunity, @tonyinmi
To all, please note that this is not a Mayo Clinic research project. When considering whether to participate in a research study, it is important to evaluate who is conducting the research.
1. Is it a learning insitution, like a medical center or university? Or is it market research for a company?
One is not necessarily better than the other, it's just good to know who is collecting information and what information you may wish to give or not.
2. Has the research met research ethics and been reveiwed by the Internal Review Board (IRB)?
Learning institutions have to follow strict protocols when conducting research and to respect the participants and carefully and securely protect the patient data they collect. Market research is not bound by these same protections.
The brochure that Tony attached provides all these details including a contact person for more information. Calling to find out more does not oblige you to participate and ethically conducted studies allow you to leave the study if you no longer wish to participate.
This study is a collaboration between TechSAge RERC, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Georgia Tech. Read more here https://techsage.gatech.edu/
It is approved by IRB # 20914. It study is funded by the National Institute on Disability,
Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR grant number 90REGE0006-01-00).
Thank you, Tony, for the info on the late deafened research study. I meet all of the criteria and am interested in being part of it so I've left a message to be called.

@sag I participated in the survey before posting on the Mayo hearing loss group. There was a brief, about 10 minutes, Zoom chat with one of the researchers, Maya. She just makes sure you're a candidate. Then, there are two very small online surveys that I had to complete. These were to give a little information about how your hearing loss affects you. Finally, the actual study was about 3 weeks later, via Zoom, and only lasted about an hour. Thank you for participating. It's our input that will help others, as well as our future, with hearing loss.
