Not sure if this is a hip or knee or shoulder....if the prior two a walker, cane, raised toilet seat, therapy strap, miralax or something to help with constipation from the pain meds (I had to do a bowel prep, no fun), ice machine's are nice because they help with pain and swelling. Hope that helps some.

Practice your breathing and meditation so you go into the surgery with a sense of peace and calm. The medical team is there to help you and, in time, you will be glad you had the procedure.

I got a sock helper and a dressing stick that really helps. Also a reacher/pick-up thing.

I don't know what the surgery is you're having. Please let us know how it went. There's not much you can do with only a few days notice anyway.

Rehab is important and again depends on the surgery. If it's a TKR get right into the rehab exercises the day after surgery, don't wait! They'll have you walk in the hospital anyway before you're released and should send you home with good instructions.

All the best!

@skoogka , i hope your surgery went well. They snould send you home with a walker. I ordered the strap to put on socks, the thing to reach/grab items. I did not get an elevated toilet seat . I placed my walker in front of me and used that to lower and raise myself on the toilet. They had me up and walking in the surgery center and P.T. Started a day or two after i went home.
