Large haematoma won't go away

Posted by jc1234 @jc1234, Mar 20 2:00pm

I fell last year in april . So we are getting on to nearly a year ago now . On some steps at work . And was left with a very large bruise/black bruise for over 3 weeks . And a dent in my bum when i landed on the step and above that was a huge lump which i thought was swelling and would eventually go . The bruise went the dent is still there and the very large lump . I had an mri and was told it looked like a resolving heamatoma . And to keep massaging it . I had done so for the past 4 weeks now and no change . If i look at the pictures from now and when it happened i would say it looks bigger . Iv told the doctors this but they keep telling me to massage . After iv massaged it my bum and leg aches . Has anyone else had this . I feel like im just being fobbed off all the time

"I feel like im just being fobbed off all the time"

I think a lot of people (including me) feel this way, for various reasons.

Anyway, when I was a kid, I had a bruise on my elbow for almost a year, after a pedal on my bicycle broke and I hit the pavement. Luckily, it didn't hurt too much.

It did eventually resolve on its own, but I had to careful not to aggravate it -- a tough problem for you, since you can't exactly avoid sitting or lying down!

They have told me to keep massaging it to see if that helps get the blood moving . But i feel like it just makes it worse when i do because it ends up aching for days

Have you tried putting ice on it? I know that would be an awkard spot to put ice, but, usually even with a hematoma on you arm from a blood draw, it helps tremendously. I am so sorry you are having this. Praying it will heal on its on soon. Blessings...

@jc1234 It takes a very long time for these hematomas to resolve. I fell on steps 30 years ago and I still have a lump and tenderness where I had a huge bruise from the fall. I learned later from physical therapists and massage therapists that the best way to resolve these is deep tissue massage. You have been doing the massage yourself and so you could keep doing that yourself. It might help if you used some massage oil or skin lotion on the spot as you are massaging. Is there someone who can do this for you? Your spouse or partner? There are also massage implements if you are interested in using a massage machine that you hold in your hand called "massage gun" You can find these online. We purchased ours from Amazon.

Iv got some stick on massage patches . Like the tens machines. Iv been using that for a few days now so hopefully that will help . Iv also been told to use heat therapy to help the blood flow . So got some heat patches

I think its numb because i have the deep heat patches on and cant even feel them getting warmer on my bum
