What surgery are they actually doing ?
Make sure to do all research on it . You said yesterday it was on 8/26 ? So did you have it done ✔️? It’s 9/23/24 .
I am looking for helpful tips for after surgery self care. I have a massive hiatal hernia containing the entire stomach and portion of the colon. This was discovered by accident as the only symptoms have been nausea, some difficulty breathing after eating, and inability to eat large meals.
Yes, I had my large hernia repaired in September, 23.
My symptoms ( squeezing pain during eating, atelectasis in my lung, triggered hot flashes)
All gone.
Post op was easier than I expected. Was able to eat soft foods in a week, and continued to improve.
Lots of gas was expelled for several weeks.
All in all a success.

I had Hiatal hernia surgery on February 3rd 2025 and I’m experiencing severe migraines every day after I eat. I’m so confused by this. Anyone else experiencing this?
I would love to hear commentary from people who have a hiatal hernia and what you do for it or have done for it. I was given a cardiac scan of my heart area for something and the scan 'accidentally' picked up that I have a hiatal hernia (totally unrelated to cardiac issues). I want to know what has worked for others. Yes, I have a doctor but feedback from actual patients is beneficial as well. I am not looking for medical advice for my own situation, just wondering about what has worked or not worked for you. Thanks.
I was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia several weeks ago, and the flare ups have been debilitating. I'm 62 and have a complicated history including a daily infusion of antibiotic through a PICC line to keep a hip replacement infection at bay. I'm also on Prednisone since my oncologist had to stop my immunotherapy because it caused pericardial effusion.
The doctors I consulted with today determined that the risk factor is too high for surgery. I also have a hiatal hernia which hasn't been as painful, but I'm unable to get a recommended colonoscopy because of it. It's complicated. The doctors also mentioned that it would be unlikely I'd get clearance for surgery from cardiology due to the effusion and atrial stenosis.
For now, I'm good for a few days, maybe a week or so, and then a flare up for which I can do nothing to relieve but lay down, ice up, and take acetaminophen. The pain during the flare up really prevents me from doing anything else and causes some nausea - in addition to the fear of the hernia becoming strangulated. I've already been to the Emergency Department once for the pain, the best they could do was push the hernia back in, which I've been told I can do on my own. Ouch.
Since surgery seems out of the question for now, how does one manage a hernia like this? I'll be getting new hernia truss but the one I'm using now doesn't seem to be making a difference in whether I have a flare up or not. What can I do to not activate a flare up?

I don't know if this would be problematic in your situation, but you might want to see if this exercise might help you - "warm water method" https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-fix-a-hiatal-hernia-yourself#other-natural-remedies
Basically, the idea is that you drink and then shake down your stomach to pull down out of the esophagus with the weight of the water. Walking around after eating also helps, in the same vein.

Hello.
I have very similar symptoms. Out of breath often after walking a few feet.
Terrible cramping at times. Have been through every gastric test with no clear diagnosis yet.
Can you elaborate with symptoms. I woukd like to hear about surgery. Hope it went well.
Onward.

2 ReactionsHi, @sherpatterson3 - I moved your discussion to join this one so you could chat with others who've had this surgery like @babswel1 @debbieltx @rozy288 and others.

Perhaps other members may know about experiencing migraines after this procedure.
How are you doing today, sherpatterson3?
I never had that surgery.
