PAIN-Laminectomy for Synovial Cyst Removal
I had a hemi-laminectomy for synovial cyst removal on May 1. I cannot believe how I underestimated the post-op pain. It was an outpatient procedure. I had sciatic pain for three years. My neurosurgeon believes I’ve had this cyst for that long. Is it normal, two weeks post
op to still feel sciatic pain amongst other pinches, nerve flashes and overall pain? My neurosurgeon gave me a tapered steroid pack at day 2 which helped. From the posts I’ve read about people feeling instant relief, I’m so discouraged. Is this normal?

I just had semi laminectomy with cyst removal on August 7th. I am also in a lot of pain, but I’m only 5 days out. Did your pain resolve? I am also slightly concerned about the same sciatic pain and nerve pain in general. The doctor performed procedure on my l4-l5 area. I have been here before with other surgeries so I’m not freaking out yet. I will reevaluate at the 2 week and 1 month mark. I hope you found some relief and answers.
Hi, I’m just wondering how you are doing with recovery? I had a first appt with a spine specialist as a synovial cyst was found in my L5/L6 and I am in excruciating pain and I think will hv to undergo surgery.

Good evening to both of you. I just wanted to let you know I’m hoping you both find relief and your healing journey soon becomes viable. Please know I had this cyst for over three years and I attributed the pain to weight gain and heavy commuting. I mentioned this because my neurosurgeon says even though nerves are the slowest healing in the body being that I had mine for so long and the nerves were compressed for so long. It will take a while for me to heal. Probably by six weeks eight weeks I was doing much better But the recovery was slow. I am now walking over 5 miles a day when I couldn’t really even walk 2000 steps a day. I have been at the gym for a month now. I am very careful of the exercises I do, but please know relief is on the way!!!! I have no patience and the group I follow on Facebook everybody had the surgery and was up running around in a week. These are people that have had assist for a month went in had the laminectomy mine was not that way, but please know give yourself some grace have more patience than I did lol and you are on your way to feeling great. The key for me was walking as much as I could and going to physical therapy at month 2. I still do daily exercise PT taught me and if I don’t, my right side hurts me so stretching and doing exercise exercises once you go to physical therapy will be super helpful which I honestly was surprised because I thought physical therapy was a joke before this whole experience. Good luck hang in there I’m rooting for you both!!!!!!

I actually started feeling better after 10 days. I felt so good after 2 weeks that I started doing too much at the gym and believe I pulled something or stretched a nerve on the left side doing hamstring curls. I’m at 5 weeks now and my back feels great, but my left glute has severe
pain when I sit or turn over in bed. I can walk for an hour uphill at this point with very little pain. I see my surgeon in a week and will get an update, but I really think I did this myself and am not sure if it is related to the back at all.
