Lack of feeling in the urethra when urinating
I had a robotic prostatectomy in January. Clearly some nerve(s) got damaged because I still have no urinary control when standing/walking/moving, but can retain when sitting or lying down. I suspect that the biggest "clue" to what's happening is that I have absolutely no sensation within the urethra when I am able to urinate at will i.e. waking during the night. The only way that I know it's happening is to either see it or hear it splashing into the toilet. I have no loss of sensation externally with the penis or any other part. My doctor claims never to have seen anything like this. Has anyone else experienced this type of loss of sensation? Any leads on where to turn for a solution? Perhaps a specific doctor who specialized in post surgical complications?

I had NSRARP in feb 2020. I leaked just as you do as soon as the catheter came out. I could not feel any sensation of urinating. As you say it just drips or streams out. I started out wearing the clip with a pad. Still no feeling of needing to urinate. At about 1 year I developed some feeling of a filling bladder when I would wear the clip. I am still at the stage. I had 8 months of PT at Mayo and have learned that I can hold it but only if I keep constant pressure with my kegels. As soon as I let up it runs right out. I had my Mayo urologist run all the testing and everything looks fine. At almost 7 years now his suggestion was an AUS. Not much help but just confirming its a real issue.

1 ReactionI have no feeling for my prostate. After all the trouble it has caused me. So we dont speak anymore. ( He blames testicles mostly)

Thanks for your input. The doctor is already suggesting an AUS, but I really want to avoid that if at all possible.
@xahnegrey40 - 🤣😂🤣
Truth be told, there isn't a whole lot of feeling inside the urethra itself. Been on intermittent catheterization for 19 months and self-cath 5-6 times a day. Except for the very tip when inserting, really no sensation at all until the urinary sphincter.

I had an AUS put in in June. I could not be happier with the result. I wouldn’t leak when laying down, but standing up or sitting down I never knew how much I would be leaking. I do know when my bladder is full, That feeling never went away after surgery Or radiation. I just started leaking six years after the salvage radiation And it got worse in the six years following.
I can feel the urine when I’m Peeing, Must admit, never heard of somebody with the same description You are talking about. I attend 11 online meetings every month and hear from dozens of people and it’s just not an issue people have brought up.
Recovery from the AUS surgery is pretty darn easy. The only real problem is sitting down for the first couple of weeks is painful because there are stitches in the perineum.
If you go to a PT that specializes in incontinence and after months of working with them, you still have the problem, an AUS is a real good solution.
