Knee Replacement Issues-Help Please!

Posted by brianbellairs @brianbellairs, Jan 25, 2023

Total knee replacement 1.25 years ago followed by manipulation under anesthesia & motion machines. Knee did not bend or straighten sufficiently. Many appts/x rays. No infection. Massive redness & burning at times below knee on inside . Knee sweats. Now after I exercise feels like lower leg bone lodges into knee at exact same place. Can’t walk (at all) and excruciating pain then feels like something slides down & problem goes away after 10 minutes.

What is this? Not showing up on x rays, blood work or aspiration. Help please!

I think you have a much easier time after TKR if you go in with a strong leg. Unfortunately sometimes you can’t because of your circumstances. My kneecap was dislocated for the fourth time and I went into surgery wearing a knee brace. My surgeon did not tell me that would make a huge difference in my recovery time. He is into the money end of it I’m afraid and I should have chosen more wisely.

I hope you are going to a different surgeon to determine your issue,
I have found out through experience with my initial TKR surgeon,
who denied familiarity with my after replacement problem. The new
surgeon I went to immediately brought up the “potential issue” I
was having, as a possible side effect, without me even mentioning it.
Then I went to general surgeon who basically concurred with the second
surgeon. From there I could take steps to rectify my issues. However, many
TKR side effects never disappear and can only be dealt with to minimize
your pain etc…. Some of these surgeons today are only looking for the money, so be careful who you pick.
Best of luck.

Agree totally. I also learned the hard way. The first surgeon kept trying to push me into dong the second knee eventhough he screwed up the partial knee operation. When he told me I needed to have that fixed with another surgery, I balked and his response was: what's the problem, it would only be soft tissue surgery!!! Like it was a walk in the part. Even after TKR he would haveme walk in the hall and tell me I would get everything back, BUT in the office, when I said what he said to my Hubby, he didn't say a word.

When I can cancelled my remaining follow up apts with him, (saw a different surgeon who helped me) it was strange that that same afternoon I got a call from the Office Manager, not the girls that do the apts. "to remind me of my upcoming apt." Seeing that my next apt. with him was scheduled 3 weeks out, that was very strange.
