Knee replacement disappointment

Posted by randallshadden1 @randallshadden1, Jun 15, 2023

I had a knee replacement 10 months ago..I'm struggling with putting full weight on it and have throbbing pain sometimes...is this normal or should I go back to the surgeon..

I would see the surgeon however I had a Rt knee replacement done 3 years ago. It’s never felt good and 2 doctors plus MRI have found nothing but tendinitis I am praying it will be ok in time

Second opinion with a different surgeon is the way to go. Find a surgeon with the best qualifications. I’d never go back to a surgeon who didn’t do the surgery right the first time around.

Another comment suggested: "Get a second opinion from a different doctor". Agreed, going back to the doc who may have made a mistake or sped thru the procedure, is unlikely to produce a critical analysis.
Amongst the people I interviewed before choosing the Dr was Tim. What I didn't take into account was Tim was 5'6" and merely 120lbs. Given his light weight and small frame, Tim did not represent a 180lb male. Weight has an extraordinary impact on my 1 year TKR.
Beyond questions like "how did it go", I should have asked the Dr if he planned to "tuck the saphenous nerve" or cut the patellar tendons which save procedure time, but resulted in pure hell for me (IMO, but I am not an md).
Also, PT people vary in skill level like every other profession. The first clinic I attended was staffed with students who had very little oversight from their expert. They inflicted even more pain but once I realized the PT was derelict, I found a better facility. The second group knew what they were doing.
All in all, I agree with another comment that TKR for my right knee was an utter and complete disaster. My left knee which has the same level of arthritis and suffered the same sports inflicted damage, will never see a surgeon's knife until technology and outcomes radically improve. Cortisone, Hyaluronic Acid and weight loss permit my left knee to work well enough. It compensates for the mistake I made with the right knee.
