Knee brace off loading

Posted by loll @loll, Jun 16, 2023

My ortho dr suggested that that an off loading knee brace might be helpful for my arthritic knee. I want to delay replacement. I don’t know anything about these braces and want to learn more. Has this helped you? What type worked and where did you get it? Thanks!

@loll I have not yet had to consider the unloader or off-loading knee brace, but I am sure the day will come. When it does, I will request a referral to a PT for fitting because there are so many sizes and varieties. Do you have insurance that will cover PT? If you have Medicare B, these braces are considered durable medical equipment and the cost is partly covered.

May I ask why you are delaying TKR? The older you get, and the worse your knee gets, the harder recovery will be.

Ty, I'm still building strength after a complicated hip replacement last summer…surgical blood loss anemia and so on. That was not a good experience.
And this would be my 4th joint replacement so no rush to add another to my list.
At this point I want to keep enjoying our MN summer
I do have a pt referral and will schedule soon.

The dr said the brace might help delay things for a while so I want to try it. He's very evidenced based.
