Just diagnosed w Esophagitis, possible Barrett’s Esophagus

Posted by melij @melij, Oct 3 7:59am

While waiting for biopsy result I am changing to an easy to swallow diet.
I have a dietitian who has given me lots of details about what foods to avoid/ eat.
What I would like to hear is what people are eating on such a diet; what does a days food menu look like for you?

That’s me!!!! I have protein shakes, bananas, oatmeal, smoothies with beans in them for extra protein spinach and fruits. Cottage cheese. Greek yogurt sugar free. No spicy stuff Ofcourse. Cream of wheat. If I’m in the mood for meat I purée chicken. And veggies. Lotsa water.

Thank you for your reply Grace! I will give this a try. Do you eat smaller, more often or try for the regular bfast, lunch and dinner ?

I had endoscopic ablation for Barrett’s in August, and I am scheduled for an endoscopic follow up in November. The first week after the ablation, the pain was very real and I was limited to an all liquid diet in small doses. Little by little, I was able to assimilate more substantial food. I do not eat anything spicy, and I do try to eat smaller portions. Along with taking 40 mgs of omezprazole twice a day, things have been going very well.

My journey has just begun but switching to soft foods has helps significantly. Now I await the biopsy results (4-6 weeks). Thanks for sharing your story. Not sure how to take this conversation private but I would love to exchange recipes if you would like ?

Of course! I eat smaller more often usually. Have you tried smoothies? Filling but healthy.

Not yet, my diagnosis is barely a week out so i’m just gathering resources. Smoothies used to be a big thing while my kids were growing up, so I will start them this week!

@graceym1
Do they always do an ablation for Barette’s or did you have other options ?

I have severe esophagitis as well as esophageal motility issues. So small meals are helping. Soft ice packs. I see a new gi Dr in December to talk about a procedure called a myotamy. This is where the cut a part of the esophagus. The end. To help the muscles to pass food down easier.

I do the same. Except, I had the fundoplication operation four years ago and it really messed up my stomach. I now have Gastro paresis whatever you do, do not let them do the fundoplication operation.
