joint pain / synovitis?

Posted by awilst @awilst, Oct 22, 2022

I am a senior & need help.

Subject Find source of joint pain with inflammation.

Comments My Symptoms, Body Joint pain, left hand
stiffness & pain, & lack of energy,
C- reactive protein tests of 32 /62/ 45.
Rheumatoid test ((9/7) negative.

For past 6 +-month I have experienced a series
of medical issues.
I have seen an orthopedic Dr. & my personal Dr,
(internist), who not been able to identify cause
of my problem.

History Up until 2020 I was healthy , went to Y
.exercised, swam 30 lap a day. In good shape.
When covid started , quit going to Y
& sat at home avoiding personal contacts.
Experienced decline of condition.
At the end of 2021, started having problems
with right wrist pain.
No other pain. Went to see orthopedic Dr.
3/21/22 who started me
on 4mg methlprodnisolone tablet therapy pack.
Took xrays, also ordered MRI, & emg/ncs nerve
tests. Later on 6/9/22 he injected a steroid into
my right wrist.

Since that time, I have experienced joint pains
which seem to have worked its way from my
right hand/wrist , across body into left
hand & rest of body. My joints in elbows,
shoulders, left hand & left wrist began to give
me pain. Also pain in legs/calf's. Problems
sleeping with pain. Whenever I moved the pain
woke me. Also frequent night urination.

Stopped with orthopaedic dr in Sept .went to
see personal dr, (internal med) & he tested
me for :
C-reactive protein, 3 times (first 32 / 2nd62/
3rd45)
rheumatoid factor negative
ana negative
cyclic citrul peptide negative
basic metabolic panel
My Dr. prescribed a repeat of
methlprodnisolone tablet therapy
pack. Same results. Temporary improvement.
After few days improvement/benefits
disappear. Pain again. Not sure, my Dr.
knows what to do.

Required Need diagnosis of cause of joint pain/wrist
pain/leg pain, c reactive protein tests, high
immunization/inflammation problems. Is this
an auto immune problem?

I have an immune deficiency, Grover’s and also joint inflammation. I’m 76 but very independent and have always kept up with flu & pneumonia vaccines. Since Covid I have kept up with those also including the latest along with the flu shot a few weeks ago. From my own experience I have not had any worse inflammation than I normally have. My sister who has rheumatoid arthritis was told be her doc to get the Covid and she’s doing fine. Personally I’d get the vaccines…

This is a question for your provider - those of us on Connect are fellow travelers on our own medical journeys, not medical professionals, so we do not interpret test results or give medical advice. At best we can share our own experiences.

I have an over-reactive inflammatory system. Every vaccine gives me a flare, but I get them because I also have lung problems. A respiratory infection like the flu, or Covid would have potentially dire consequences for me. So I put up with injection reactions in hopes of avoiding worse illnesses. Occasionally, the reactions have been bad enough to require a course of steroids, for me that is a tolerable risk compared to becoming ill.
