johnnyclapp, chemotherapy for AML can cause osteoporosis. AML itself can cause raise uric acid levels, causing gouty arthritis in the joints. Imaging and bloodwork will help determine which medications will help.
I wonder if you would be offered teriparatide now that the counterindications have been lifted. Allopurinol might be prescribed if you have gouty arthritis.
Thxs for answer I get up in the morning my whole body is sore and stiff I have more bone pain in my humerus ulna and radius bones in my right arm that goes up to my shoulder hopefully I can get some answers tomorrow thxs again
If I don't take statins my cholesterol goes way over 200. I have tried every brand and get awful joint and muscle pain that I can hardly walk. I am 83 and usually can walk at least 2 miles a day. My cardiologist wants to put me on the new injectables has anyone tried them? I do have osteoarthritis so I'm sure that plays a part too.
gussie, I'm in the same situation, except that my cholesterol is over 400. This new cardiologist says that if one statin bothers your muscles they all will. I'm prescribes Repatha, but read about 7 days of stomach trouble with the bimonthly injection. I can't get interested. Let me know how it goes. Best wishes.
I’ve been on Zocor (simvastatin) for years with no ill effects. Same with Alendronate for osteoporosis, I’ve had no ill effects from it either. So do not use the blanket statement “they all have something that’s bad”. I walk 2 miles daily and cannot take NSAIDS so I use instead turmeric caps 3x daily plus niacin nightly for my inflammation.
gently, I have IBS-D so almost everything bothers my stomach. I see my cardiologist today so we'll see what she says. Of course I read about all the side effects of Repatha and it also says back pain, which I already have and flu like symptoms. I am super sensitive to almost all drugs. I am the only person I know who couldn't even take 100 mg of gabapentin because of diarrhea.
#2 here! Take that however u want😝. Just started 200 mg Gab…intolerable.
Thanks topsz. I'm with you and Gussie on gabapentin - it gives me like internal shivers and my skin gets very sensitive to the touch. No thanks.
I can’t take it either. A lot of people can’t. For your IBS go on the FODMAP diet. It’s free and available at the Monash University online. It’s an elimination diet, which means that you start out on a very small diet which immediately relieves all your IBS and then you expand to find the intolerable offenders. I’ve been on it since 2018. I also was diagnosed with small intestinal bacteria overgrowth for which there is a targeted antibiotic called Xifaxan. FODMAP becomes a way of life. It shows you what you can’t digest anymore. So as long as you avoid those foods, you won’t have stomach aches, diarrhea, and constipation. I take allopurinol for the Gowdy arthritis and it gets rid of the joint aches perfectly and it’s a very easy medicine to take. It’s also easily diagnosed with a simple blood test for uric acid.
Thank you I do know about the FODMAP diet and about Xifaxan. Medicare doesn't cover it and it costs over $1000. I have also been gluten free for over 15 years
