It's a combination mild opiate and SNRI with low to moderate risk of becoming habit forming and is Schedule IV while stronger opiates hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine) have a higher chance of becoming habit forming and are Schedule II. When I've needed a stronger pain med I prefer Tramadol because, for me, it doesn't have the mental fog that the stronger drugs have but I'd still use caution and no take it more than needed.

My impression is that Tramadol is prescribed for pain. When a person is in pain they often feel depressed and anxious. So, pain relief would then lift a person's mood. It's an awful cycle of pain, low mood, and then more pain. Breaking that cycle is important.

If you take the prescribed dosage at night does that help you to sleep better?

@naturegirl5 I sleep well. The Tramadol is a mood enhanced. True as pain brings with it some depression. Having said that, I have, in the past suffered withdrawal from taking it daily do I just deal with the moodiness and take it only very seldom,

I can only take a half or quarter of a 50 mg. I only need it maybe 3-4 times in a week but hours after it wears off I’m a walking zombie.

It does the opposite for me. I’m a walking zombie and depression hits me. I can’t function until it wears off. And I can only tolerate half or quarter of a 50 mg tablet.

I was prescribed Tramadol for pain following my 1st knee replacement. I cannot tolerate it - severe tremors/shaking, nausea. I have listed it as a medicine allergy on my health chart. My reactions are that severe.
