Is there treatment for right ovarian vein thrombosis?

Posted by monroeslc @monroeslc, Mar 3 7:34pm

I am 73 who continues making sure I have my regular doctor visits. However, I was not feeling well. Went to ER. Flu test given and it detected the flu present. Additionally, ER physician did a CT scan that showed right ovary thrombosis.
A follow-up to Gynecologist resulted in ultra sound, biopsy of uterus, and referral to hematologist. No one has given a definitive answer if this is treatable. At this point, I am so upset with each professional that has passed me along without answers for treatment. A 3 week time frame from ER to OB to hematologist is uncaring for me to still have this on my overlay. I feel that I am not valued and After this first visit, I want an answer if this condition of right vein thrombosis is treatable. I am prayerful that things will be ok. Thank you for any help to get through this .

@monroeslc, the short answer is yes. Ovarian vein thrombosis (OVT) is a rare condition. It is treatable, typically with anticoagulation medications (blood thinners) like heparin and warfarin.

I'm glad that the ER physician detected the thrombosis in the ovary. OVT is usually found while looking for other causes of lower abdominal pain.

Are you currently taking a blood thinner medication?
