Yes! Are you stage 3a or 3b?
@ashleyckd3
If you put "Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3" in the search box at the top of the page, it will bring up a slew of threads for you.
That's one way to start. Others on this thread may direct you to some specific threads that they've found helpful.
Thank you for the info I will definitely check that out
I’m not certain yet. Don’t have an appointment with Kidney Dr until February. This diagnose was from primary care dr stage 3.
@ashleyckd3 I have been "stage 3" for many years and the PCP never mentioned it and I did not see a nephrologist. Then I had a sudden drop in eGFR (55 to 36) and a new autoimmune diagnosis so I saw a nephrologist finally.
Many of us are stage 3 as we age. Depending on 3a or 3b, severity varies and also fluctuates.
A healthy e -GFR is >59. Do you have a record of your comprehensive metabolic panel with creatinine based eGFR?
Hydration can play a big role in lowering the eGFR.
There is another GFR called a Cystatin C that is less affected by various factors (blood pressure, muscle activity etc. can affect the other one). My Cystatin C has been more stable and still around 50.
I’m am worried sick. My creatine protein ration is 211. My creatine is 1.05 and my egfr is 57. They actually improved by 2 points each last year but then this protein problem entered the picture. I’m 70. I’m on a low protein diet 30 grams a day nephrologist says if diet doesn’t help in 6 months it’s jardiance. Anyone has personal experience? Does anyone has experience with over the counter protein tests. I’ve been doing that with results of no protein trace which is almost too good to believe.
@ashleyckd3 and @suzeg a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) can cause fear regardless of the stage # &/or alphabet letter. It can sneak up on you and often has no symptoms until it is REALLY bad. The various lab tests (eGFR, creatinine, Cystatin c, blood serum protein, urine protein, various ratios…..) can also cause stress. These tests can all vary on any given day. As @windyshores pointed out, they can be affected by things like hydration. Other things factor in too like diet, time of testing, different labs used for testing…etc. What is important is the overall trend in lab tests results over time. Having a nephrologist, the same lab for each test and a dietician/nutritionist who specializes in renal diets can help sort out the details of all these factors. They can also help you to create an individualized treatment plan that best suits your needs. CKD isn’t a DIY (do it yourself) condition.
