Is LPRD completely curable?
Hi, around two months back I was under lot of stress and anxiety, during that time i developed symptoms like dry coughing, feeling of something stuck in my throat, need to clear my throat. No problem while eating or drinking but all the time i had these symptoms. I went to ENT and doctor said its LPR and gave PPI (1-morning,1-evening). My symptoms went away after 3 weeks but i continued with the medication for 4 weeks. But once I stopped the medication the symptoms came back much worse (more coughing and feeling to something stuck in throat) in 3-4 days.
I also maintained a diet without tea/coffee, chocolate, alcohol, no spicy or oily food, no citrus fruits and food at regular time and sleeping after 2 hrs from dinner. Also, I am no more in any other stress or anxiety.
I read some internet blogs on LPR and it seems its lifelong disease and some people say there is no cure even after taking PPI’s.
1. I am concerned that can I get fully cured from LPR/ will this condition remain lifelong with me?
2. Why medicine do not seem to work for me?
Its very frustrating and effecting my everyday life and work

Hello @anirudha02 and welcome to Mayo Connect.
I can understand your concern with the symptoms you have experienced. It is natural to want to know if a condition like this is going to be lifelong or not.
We have many discussions here on Connect that deal with LPR/GERD. Here are some links to those discussions, please read through these discussions and let me know what you learn.

Many of us with these symptoms that you describe consider it a lifelong problem. We use meds, watch our diet for any foods that trigger these symptoms and very importantly manage our weight. As you probably have been told, excess weight can be an issue that will make this problem worse.
As with any health condition, keeping stress to a minimum is important so I find that exercise helps me with that aspect of GERD.
How are you managing your diet, weight, and stress?
I look forward to hearing from you again!
Thank you for replying.
I am avoiding the trigger foods and also i am not overweight. For stress i am doing few breathing exercises but there is no stress now.
My concern is should i have to be on PPIs life long (i am 36 yrs). Also for now PPI don’t always seem to help, been 2 months.
@anirudha02 You mentioned seeing an ENT doctor in your first post. Have you also seen a gastroenterologist? I believe this would be a good next step in better understanding what your treatment options are.
I know this thread is old. Just wanted to know if you have found some relief from LPR and if so how? I have LPR and this is awful.
Welcome @kbro2010 - There is another discussion on the topic that is older but has active members who may have some suggestions to provide relief from your LPR symptoms.
