Is it veins, a bruise, or something else?

I have a purpleish, vein-like bruise on my ankle that hasn't gone away for almost a year. I didn't think much of it at first. I have very pale skin so I just thought it was my veins showing through. However, this bruising is only present in one particular spot of my ankle, not all over, and my family members have been concerned about it.
The only symptom other than the bruising is that the area can be very dry, especially in the winter. I'm quite young to get varicose veins so I don't think that's likely. I do have a habit of sitting on my ankles, so maybe I stressed out the blood vessels in the area by doing that? If so, then it wouldn't be so localized, but that's the only thing I think it could be. Any other thoughts?

Without seeing what the concerning skin looks like it is hard to say what it might be.

Is the area painful? No matter if it is or isn’t you need to see your personal care physician or a dermatologist.

I had varicose veins pop up when I was 20 years old. They do occur at younger age. They run in my family.

@fourof5zs It's not painful at all. I agree I wish we could share pictures but it's a purplish-red bruise that kind of looks like a spider web or veins. It disappears when you rub it but comes back quickly.

You might schedule a skin check with a dermatologist. https://sundoctors.com.au/blog/skin-cancer-or-bruise/

@gently That's a good idea, in fact I believe I have a derm checkup in a month or so. I might get it checked then.

crazy, it probably is spider veins. I don't know why I didn't think of it. You've diagnosed yourself. I'm happy your family is looking out for you. https://theveinlab.com.au/spider-veins-in-the-ankle-and-feet/

It probably is spider veins. Most of the time they are harmless. Sometimes they can be signals of other things going on in your body. such as hormonal changes, chronic venous insufficiency, a problem with the liver and other things. So a good thing to talk about with your pcp.
