Is it ok to wait 3 months for my radical prostectomy?

Should be no issue, I waited 4 months last year for my RARP procedure. Echoing what previous poster retireditguy said, I used the time to lose weight and do kegals all of which helps improve the outcome of the procedure and recovery.

While it is supposedly slow growing, the sooner the better. My 2nd biopsy in July said Gleason 3+4, PET negative for spread and low decipher score.by the time they operated on 10/29, turned out it was 4+5 and ate through the capsule. Still had negative margins but still going to be a waiting game for 5 yrs to see if it comes back

Mine was scheduled 5 months out prior to 04/2025 (waiting list) even with a tumor (4+3) sidelining the colon wall (worst kind). Called other surgeons for an earlier appointment - nogo, it was longer. So, went on vacation just prior to RP, went scuba diving in the Caymen's, returned for RP and now welcome to the world of urination, men's diapers (great invention), portable urinals, paper towels, controlled liquid intake and CANCER FREE. The things they don't tell you about the prostate gland in 8th grade sex education class - pressure relief valve!
You'll be fine.

We wish we could have done it sooner. Not all cancers are "slow growing". If your Decipher is high - take that ticking bomb out ASAP . My husband had biopsy in February, waited for results till March (result was 4+3), than waited for PSMA for weeks, than surgeon went on vacation till August, and to make the story short RP pathology in August found 4+5 !!! His Decipher was 1 BTW, the highest it can be. If you made your decision and wish to do it, there is no reason to wait with such a high gleason to begin with : (.

I was diagnosed in March of 2025, the urologist that I got the diagnosis from couldn’t wait to “work me into” his schedule. After several telephone calls from his office attempting to get me in the OR, I nicely told his nurse I wasn’t interested in helping him make his boat payments and that I wasn’t interested going to get a second opinion. My second opinion came from a urologist who advised surgery as well but offered to set up consultations with other medical professionals to allow me to make an informed decision on which way I wanted to go treatment wise. I opted for surgery with my second opinion and to date have not regretted it. I asked how much time I had to set a date for RP which he told me he would not wait anymore than 3 months, that was after a pet scan that gave him a clearer picture of what he would be dealing with. All this to say gather the facts and make a good decision on how long you can afford to wait, this way there is less anxiety and stress

These urologists are scheduled-out months in advance for surgeries. Remember...they run an in-office practice seeing patients: for routine exams/assessments; biopsies; pre-op prep consultations; and post-op follow-ups. Most do surgery two days per week. So, their schedules get backed-up and booked-out months in advance. My time line was: November 2024: first contact and exam with PSA; December 2024: 12-core biopsy; Second week of January 2025: in-person review of biopsy report and discussion of options (Gleason Score was 3 + 4 = 7); Mid-April 2025: DaVinci Robotic-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy. I am now 8-months post-op, having had two PSA levels drawn/tested at 3-months, and 6-months post-op: both essentially "zero" at < 0.1 ng/ml.
You should be fine with the perceived wait. As others have offered, prostate cancer is very slow growing, fortunately. So, a 3-4 month wait between biopsy and surgery is usually inconsequential.

My husband's biopsy was, I believe, the end of June or beginning of July. One Gleason 8 (15%) and two Gleason 6's (5%) By the time we did all of the other tests and got scheduled by the surgeon we wanted at UCLA, we were slated for surgery at the beginning of November! So four months away. We were nervous, but ultimately trusted the surgeon's timing.

Surgery was two weeks ago, and everything turned out great. The final pathology showed one Gleason 4+3=7 (60%) and two Gleason 3+4+=7 (10% and 30%). Clear margins. Clear lymph nodes. No seminal invasion. Organ-confined disease.

It's scary waiting, but the time will pass before you know it. Try not to stress too much.

@rlpostrp I figure you you didn't have ADT. Is that right?
I had SBRT about the same time you had RARP. My 3-month & 6-month post-SBRT PSAs were 0.36 & 0.22, higher than yours because I still have prostate that may take two years or more before I can have undetectable PSA. I'm happy for your practically undetectable PSA this early.

@bomar540, I hope you saw all the helpful responses you received from the group and your mind is put at ease as you wait for surgery. How are you doing?

if you're going to have it removed, definitely have it done robotically,
but I would say also have it done as soon as possible.
The last thing you want is to have it removed and then discover that cancer had spread outside of the prostate.
