I want to know if Dr. Gundry's program and medicine for "leaky gut" a scam? Lucien

There’s an excellent book, SUPER GUT by Dr. William Davis, you can get on Amazon. He talks about tests you can order yourself for SIBO or other concerns you may have, foods to include in your diet, prebiotics and probiotics as well as recipes. There are so many illnesses that are triggered by the lack of a healthy gut biome. It’s worth the read.

Well, I have been researching anything that can return my regular BM since my intestinal prolapse surgery in October and now I am becoming more than a little concerned. I also read Dr Gundry's excerpts from his book and I think he sounds like he just wants money from people. Not an expert as he calls himself. I don't know what to use anymore because nothing is really working.. Doctors have prescribe the Miralax, Lactulose, Bisacodyl, Phillips Milk of Magnesia (yuk) and other over the counter things- such a waste of money .... the list goes on... I was so desperate last week I bought one of those liquid enema apparatus kits.. but I felt it was too dangerous and that I may harm myself even further... my PCP suggested eating 2 Kiwi's Fruits and at least 64 ounces of warm lemon water per day.. Apparently Kiwi's are the new "Prunes" Yoga and different types of twisting exercises sometimes gets things moving a bit, but none of this gives me the relief that is needed to be normal. I am literally full of ___ !! Today I decided I am no longer eating because it is not being eliminated properly. I can't go on this way any longer.. Each doctor seems to be of no help. This is such a condition that is difficult and embarrassing to talk about, even to a gastrologist .. I don't know... I feel something is terrible wrong.. Please, does anyone have any have any other suggestions about what I can do this weekend? Thank you so much for any response 🙁

Dr, Grundy comes off as an authority on everything. I saw one of his ads on line about leaky gut and it took forever for him to come around to tell you that he is trying to peddle a supplement that he has created. Sounds like a real grifter to me! Also, the entire time during his long winded video presentation, he can’t help but tell you all of his accomplishments over and over again. There are so many of these people out there now and you really have to be careful!

The catch phrase that a lot of these so called experts use who try to peddle their ‘magic pills’, or should I say supplements is this: the diet industry or the FDA, or your doctor doesn’t want you to know about what is really causing your ailment or won’t tell you what I’m about to tell you. They prey on those who are looking for a quick fix, and believe me we all are looking for an easier way to be healthy.

I fell for it and they got me for about $500. It is a total 100% scam from my experience. They doubled my online order “by accident” and changed my card the full amount for both orders, I called customer support about the mix up and after a very long hold a very pleasant young lady assisted and assured me that all I needed to do was return the extra merchandise (I would be responsible to pay shipping both ways) and that the refund would show up on my card between 30 to 60 days. She actually laughed a few times while assisting me. She also advised me that I would end up needing the doubled order anyway because the best results occurred over a longer period of time. I kept them and took the probiotics as directed 4ea daily for 120 days with absolutely zero results.. not even a slight placebo in the beginning etc. I could have bought an awful lot of sauerkraut for $500, what a rip off. The best probiotics you can get are in organic plant based foods. It turns out that all of my low energy, bloated gut and digestive problems disappeared after 45 days of abstaining from drinking beer or any other alcoholic beverage.

Sorry about you not being able to go.
I'm 60, this should work for you, as it does for me:
1. Organic psyllium Husk
- not the capsule stuff....see images on Google : Grape Tree Organic Psyllium Husk.
Just a spoonful or two is incredible! With some grub, of course. You can actually hear your guts bubbling , as the husk is pushing things through the gut!
2. Fast walk for about an hour....like you're in a hurry to catch a train .....because the gut operates better when you're exercising.
3. Eat all kinds of beans : black beans , heinz, butter beans, canelli beans , kidney beans .....avoid white bread, junk food etc etc.
- that's it, really.....in fact, it's so easy to do a number 2, that you have to stop taking it for a while, or else you keep going 2 or 3 times a day.
Good luck!
Oops! Forgot!
Do a poo squatting, our ancestors never used toilets ....we have their genes .,..you'll be amazed how quickly the waste comes out , compared with doing it on a seat!

In answer to the original question, Dr Anthony Fasano discovered Zonulin, which regulates the trafficking of environmental antigens across the mucosal barrier. A web search should bring up details.

I believe that is related to leaky gut, but may not be exactly the same.

Zonulin?
Forget it, mate....!
Rely on Nature : a healthy diet supplying healthy gut colonies - the mucosal lining will then be in a healthy condition.

The OP asked about leaky gut. Zonulin regulates the size of the cellular junctions in the gut. Inappropriately wide junctions allow larger and more passage, or “leak”. I don’t know how that relates to Dr Gundry because I am unfamiliar with his theories.

Although i don’t disagree with your recommendation to have a healthy gut, some people need to take action to obtain such a gut. I have celiac. Celiac disease causes an overproduction of Zonulin, wider junction, and the leakage of proteins, antigens, and antibodies into the blood. I have to maintain a strict gluten-free diet to keep that from occurring.

OMG! This is my story! I also had intestinal prolapse surgery and I am now trying to balance, constipation and diarrhea. your story is very disheartening since it’s been only 2 months post surgery for me and I was hoping I just needed more time. Now I think I may never be normal again. Please keep me posted

I had minor gynecological surgery last year that afterwards required radiation and Chemo therapy and since then it has taken nearly a year to finally get back to some form of regularity. Since I studied medical technology decades ago, I tend to diagnose everything and I think I may have finally gotten this issue right. Since Chemo wipes out the normal bacterial flora in the digestive tract, it takes time to rebuild it. I tried several things before I discovered a probiotic for women's vaginal and digestive health that has worked the best. It's gentle and effective. It's Nature's Way Pearls and I purchase them on amazon. They seem to be working well for me.
Getting back to normal takes time. So as they say "keep on keeping on." Your body is a natural healing mechanism."
