Hi @lekenne, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You'll notice that I moved your questions about barley water into one discussion that appears in multiple related groups. My go to resource for inquiring about complementary medicine and supplements is the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) https://nccih.nih.gov/ They do not have any evidence-based information about barley water. I found this article however:
– Health Benefits of Barley Water https://www.healthline.com/health/barley-water-benefits
There is some evidence that barley water might help with lowering cholesteral, controlling blood sugar, losing weight, improves digestion and may help reduce the risk of cancer. There are also some cautions about drinking too much and to check if it has added sugar or sweetner. Too much can put a strain on your digestive system.
@sickirishlass, the article didn't mention anything about barley water being used to flush the kidneys. Do you have articles about its use for kidney health?
@lekenne, if you're pregnant, I recommend talking to your doctor before taking any supplement or barley water.
