Is anyone on Avalox with Ethambutol and azithromycin?

Hi. Was just getting started with the Big 3 3 x wk. Began first with Rifabutin but unfortunate it gave me high fever and terrible flu like symptoms. My doctor has ordered Avalox in its place but I am questioning this med as a replacement. I have not taken anything else yet. Have MAC. Doing pretty well on nothing except fatigue and I can’t gain any weight back. Lost 10 lbs. I have reached out to NJH and ready to schedule but reading mixed experiences here. Any guidance or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

@shelly61 Avelox, also known as moxifloxacin, is sometimes used in treating NTM infections. Usually the doctor will order a susceptibility test before starting it. Do you know if this was done on any of your sputum cultures?

Hi Sue. I have a f/u appointment on Oct 8 with the ID doctor and will ask that question. It just didn’t seem right that the other meds were 3xwk and replacing the rifabutim with daily Avalox I question. Wonder why it wouldn’t be 3x/wk on the Avalox as well? I have not started this and will chat with ID. Just wondering if I need another doctor also.
Thank you!

Avelox is a Fluroquinolone
Please avoid this drug if at all possible they are way more dangerous than doctors realise.
I know this by experience. Please research Fluroquinolone toxicity syndrome before taking one tablet.
