Introduction
My name is Denise, I am 68 years old, and I have slowly been losing my hearing over the last 20 years. I was told that I lost my high range due to having measles as a child, and the low range loss is due to loud noises. I have tried many different hearing aids over the years. Two years ago at Costco, I discovered truly miraculous hearing aids. There is a receiver in my ear and outside my ear and the hearing is a game changer for me. It's not perfect, I still struggle with consonants and people speaking too fast or not looking at me. A crowd is impossible, it's just noise for me. I supplement my hearing aids with Assistive Technology that captions what is being said. It came on my Android phone under the accessibility setting, but I believe you can download it from the iPhone or Play Store for your phone. It's from Google and they call it Google Accessibility and they gratefully acknowledge the the help of Gallaudet University. I love it!

Welcome. I agree with everything you've said and done. I also use my iPhone free captioning as well, even with phone calls it will caption if I remember to turn it on. It is under Settings - Accessibility - Hearing and is called Live Caption. The only reason to buy one of the paid apps like Ava or Otter is if you are in business or are the secretary for a Board and need to keep a history of what was discussed. But Live Transcribe (Android) and Live Caption (Apple) are both excellent.
If I am in a bit noisier setting, I use my Phonak Roger On microphone that Bluetooth connects directly to my hearing aid and cochlear implant. There is nothing better than Direct Sound to your ears.

I returned my Renton hearing aids from Costco. I got a pair from jabra and so far I Ike them.
