Intestinal Metaplasia: What do you do to lower the risk of cancer?
Has anyone been diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia? What does your doctor recommend? I was just diagnosed and am very anxious about it because of the risk of cancer. Would like to hear your experience with it. Thank you.

are you on the "no sweets" programme as well? I'm definitely new at all this and, upon examination, had a pretty horrible diet in the past :-/
My ex GI Dr. told me I might have stomach cancer and he sent me to an oncologist. The oncologist told me I have a better chance of getting prostate cancer than stomach cancer. He told me the 2 worst things I can do to myself is to drink booze and smoke. I avoided salty and smoked foods. I ate a lot of steamed chicken breast. I avoided acidic foods.

1 ReactionThe biggest positive change was getting a juicer and juicing every day. (I use celery, cucumbers, green apple and lemon with a little ginger root. )

2 Reactionsbe careful to replace any nutrients lost from cutting out these foods. I take good probiotics, B12, C and D3 and a multivitamin. I quit a lot of those foods PLUS more and got Anemia. I cut out coffee, sodas, all meats, ALL processed box and can and frozen foods. Ieat a lot of fish, chicken, turkey and greens. SUGAR is enemy #1. Also fruits are good.

2 ReactionsI received the diagnosis of intestinal metaplasia and, much like many of you, it's really gotten to me. I understand that there are many different contributing factors that make it more / less concerning; however, it is my understanding that it turning to full on GC is fairly low. My only dietary advice was to avoid smoked and salty meats, like hot dogs, salamis, etc and no smoking. I've decided to eliminate practically everything from the plate including all cheeses, sweets, Italian foods, Mexican foods, sodas, chips, fries. Quick question though - am I looking for absolutely NO sugar and salt diet? What's worked for you?
I developed stomach ulcers after going off of Pantaprazole. My GI put me back on a ppi. I get scoped in April 2024.
After seeing my gastroenterologist yesterday, I am on a 6 week fodmap diet, and I'm off pantoprazole.
Sure. Thanks for your encouragement and help.

I'm glad that you will be seeing a GI doctor on Tuesday. Please let the doctor know about the need for a good eating plan that will help to reduce the heartburn you are experiencing.
I look forward to hearing from you again. Will you post again after your appointment?
