Interstitial cystitis: What were your first symptoms?
I am having symptoms of IC. I am a 47 year old female. I have been having severe pain in the bladder area, it's not a uti. I've been to urgent care, the ER and gyn. None of the doctors I have seen have found anything wrong. I see my primary doctor next week. I am in SO much lower abdominal pain, with urgency to go to the restroom. For anyone who has the diagnoses of IC, what was your first symptoms and how were you diagnosed (tests? Specialists?) Thanks!

I am so happy to have found this website and this discussion platform . For the past two months have had a small trace of blood in my urine test . My doctor has referred me to and Urologist , but can't get in until the end of May . I feel like I have Interstitial Cystitis , by reading posts I have all the symptoms . Each urine test shows no UTI.. which is so very frustrating . Frequent bathroom trips , urgency to go all the time , back pain and lower abdomen spasms . I have tried the heating pad trick between my legs at night and that helps some . But I can't walk around with a heating pad daily ( I have to work ) . Could anyone recommend any remedies till I can see a Urologist ? I am absolutely miserable. Does this sound like I have IC ???
Thanks everyone .

2 Reactions@4grands welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. We shouldn’t be diagnosing or prescribing here. But I have an idea that can’t hurt. Could you ask your doctor (the one who referred you to urology) about the possibility of IC? Tell the doc about how miserable you are and ask if there’s any recommended treatments to help you deal with this while waiting to get in for the urology appointment. You could also contact urology and let them know that you’d be interested in coming in sooner if they have any appointment times open up.

1 ReactionYou definitely need a proper diagnosis, but meanwhile check out the IC Facebook site and follow their recommended diet to reduce flares. I got relief with the diet before I got an actual dx - I add a little baking soda in my glass of morning water and it helps.
