Intermediate-Risk: Do You Need Hormone Therapy With Radiation + 80yrs.

Posted by zooblio6 @zooblio6, Jan 3 5:34am

Just been watching an interview on You Tube with Dr Mark Scholz of the Prostate Cancer Research Group ( LA ) where he questions the need for ADT in addition to RT for men over 70 -'Intermediate-Risk: Do You Need Hormone Therapy With Radiation?'

Here he queries the treatment approach for men diagnosed at/over 80
'Diagnosis Over 80' - also on You Tube.

Both well worth watching.

My bad as they tend to say - both were posted in my Gleason 7 ( 4+3 ) thread. Sorry.

Here they are...

'Dose-Escalated Radiotherapy Alone or in Combination With Short -Term Androgen Deprivation for Intermediate-Risk Prostate Cancer : Results of a Phase 111 Multi-Institutional Trial' Pub April '23.

'Risk of Death in Octogenarians with Intermediate Risk Prostate Cancer Who Are Treated With Radiation Therapy (RT) Plus Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) Versus Radiation Alon, an NCDB Analysis' Pub' October 2024.

A quick Google search should throw them both. I found them v.helpful.

David

I was 70, intermediate grade, went SBRT route. Given a .69 Decipher risk, my oncologist at Mayo said he believed 4 months of ADT with Orgovyx would give me a small advantage so I went for it. Now, 16 months later, no regrets.

I just finished 6 weeks/28 sessions of radiation, no hormone therapy. I had 1 core at 4/3 and 3 at 3/4. I was stage 2 with intermediate growth, my psa was 7.1 when I started, I don't remember what my decipher score was, I'll have to re-read the report for that. I'll be getting some lab work done in February and we'll see what that says, my Dr. is very optimistic as I am as well. I actually finished treatment about 8 weeks ago now that I think about it, and I just started feeling as well as I ever have. Good health to all.
