Inter fissure nodule

Posted by lhatfield96 @lhatfield96, 4 days ago

I have an inter fissure nodule on right side. Just had a follow up CT scan that said findings were in previous report (wasn’t mentioned in report). I have a GGO they said was stable but increased by 2mm and a calcified hilar node and a calcified granuloma but this inter fissure nodule has me worried. Any experience with these and what they are? Radiologist didn’t recommend follow up? If it was bad would they?

@lhatfield96 Is this another finding from your CT scan? Have you seen the pulmonologist yet for an interpretation of the findings based on your overall health and other conditions?
Hilar nodes and calcifications are usually "artifacts" of prior infections. By themselves, even with your GGO, they would not normally be worrisome, unless accompanied by symptoms like significant shortness of breath, fever, fatigue, weight loss and coughing.

Are you at high risk of lung cancer due to smoking, exposure to a dangerous environment (like mining , pesticides, Agent Orange, silica dust or other toxins)? Do you have COPD, Asthma, Emphysema, Bronchiectasis or another lung disorder?

My CT scans are messy - from a lifetime of Asthma, exposures and repeated pneumonia. If you read them without knowing my history, you might say "Uh-oh!" but my radiologists and pulmonologist just say "CT stable, no new areas of concern, no new evidence of infection."

What does the pulmonologist say?

I don’t personally have experience with them but I would definitely follow up with a pulmonologist to see if further testing is needed. I have had radiologists miss things and not call out everything noted in the imaging in the report. I have also had doctors not read the report or look at the imaging and tell me what was noted. I have found things myself and followed up myself (for example, I had an incidental finding of a nodule on my thyroid and no one told me about it…I found it on the report when paying my bill).

Over the last 3 years my CT’s have shown granulomas, ground glass, a nodule and latest tree in bud nodules and in each incident my pulmonologist said they ere a result of infection but I had not been sick. I do not understand

I see him Friday. Wrecking myself with anxiety. I smoke but not heavily and I know I have to quit. I just pray it’s not too late.

.The report seems confusing. you didn't mention the inter fissure nodule size. Inter fissure describes where it is located. if very small, it is probably fine. calcifications are a good thing as cancer does not calcify. My doctor told me he loves finding calcifications as they are a very positive sign that nodule is benign. what I would definitely ask doctor about is the nodule described as stable yet it has grown. by 2mm. That is very confusing. you deserve an explanation. Stay on top of this, remember we are our best advocates.

How true! One should read the report. Doctors don't always read the report and usually don't point out other incidental findings.
