Infection is a hard issue to cope with. What on earth happened to cause a chronic issue. What are you now doing to find peace and reconciliation with this situation? What age at]re you and how long did this infection progress? This is very rare I have not expected that no implant could ever be applied again using any components to give you back mobility and independence to your life. I am sorry this has been a very difficult time for you. Do you have help and assistance in your home environment?

1 Reaction@hippylife I forgot to add, she also had high levels of Cobalt 17.2 and Chroumin 9.7
I too had 2x’s the normal amount of cobalt and chromium acceptable by the FDA. Also none of the soft tissue issues can be seen in a MARS cat scan, which is special scan designed to see past the metal implants. Had a fracture in the greatortochantor and that was not seen in any testing. But due to the blind issue of metal in software the scans showed zero issues . The tissue damage was not seen until they opened the primary incision. Now in 2026 need another revision , re-revision to clean up the new injury from the revision in 2017 . 9 years later the 2017 revision has failed and I need a re-revision to straighten out my leg which has rotated, remove the metal cerclage holding the femur bone has slipped & the poly cup needs replacing. Fingers crossed this next surgery is the last.

@hippylife I wonder if your implant had a recall which lead to a class action lawsuit? My wife had a Stryker all 6 x times. Yes, there was a recall and class action suit; no amount of monies can replace the time lost trying to rebuild one’s life and the legal team get their cut right up front!
@dannyandebbie yes it took years out of your wife’s life and my life , years we could have been spending time doing something we enjoy. The primary surgery - ABGll Mom was in a class action lawsuit suit , yes the attorney that handled that case I called recently and will not handle this new one because it’s not a class action multi million $ case but only a single one person $700,000 case. And this 3rd revision 2026 is bc of the primary surgery. Now I have bladder and colon retention and still the Medicare health system at OHSU is covering up Stryker and the revision components I have proof it’s not anything else all testing proves it’s the implants from 2017 failure that took 2 years to recover from by the way. I waited e months to see the in-network surgeon who dismissed me in less than 15 minutes shoving a xray in my face saying all components look ok and that it’s all in my back. Then abruptly left the exam room without even a physical examination of left leg rotation or addressing several other serious issues including foot drop. And by the way this surgeon was the MD assistant surgeon in training with the OHSU complex revision surgeon at OHSU in 2017.
Last month I became a member of an out of network health insurance company my dissatisfaction with the Medicare Regence PPO health coverage is …. I have joined a private practice PC that takes time to review my health issues and a private practice revision surgeon my PC referred me to. I am worth more than the bottom line on any corporate spread sheet or the standard 15 minute exam for my complex hip replacement issues, & or the standard script corporate surgeons use to dismiss patients. I am not dealing with any more stress from them.
I have received excellent treatment from out of network PC and meds to help me thru the nerve suppression from the implants and bladder retention . Also I have a systemic itching in my entire body from head to toe caused by polyethylene cups and implant materials leaching in my tissue around the implants. My PC addressed that issue by steroids and a tapper down for one week. It is such a relief to not constantly scratching myself raw. No topicals help and it’s a systemic problem and need to remove the old implants.
@dannyandebbie see my reply . Sorry missed the right button to enter my response to you and your wife.

1 Reaction@hippylife what I observed is that as long as everything goes smoothly you are a patient; if and when things start going South, you are a number pushed off to one side! Hopefully you can get the required treatment and began recovery and start to regain your life and health back. It is so easy as we age to blame any issue on our age instead of taking 100% responsibility for their FU’s! Praying things improve for you and your family!

Thank you for your response.
You are correct there will be no other hip replacement. I had an infection for about a year and a half.
After the surgery I was in the hospital for about 10 days then transferred to a rehab treatment and now I am at home. Soon, I will have home care assistance.
