Indent under kneecap, no pain

Posted by tesand @tesand, Sep 11, 2023

A random indent under my knee appeared a month or two ago. I have no idea what the cause could be. There is no pain and I have no health issues that I know of. I recently started running, but this has only happened under one knee (my left). Not sure if i should be worried. What could it be?

Did no one respond? My daughter has the same under both knees and looking for a cause. Did you get any answers?

@tesand Since you are talking about running, my thought is about shin splints. Does this seem to be attached to the bone? I have scars like this that were caused by a cage that was attached after an ankle fracture. The attachment points were screwed into the shin bones and heel bone. Mine do cause pain, and I take my hands and push and pull on it and hold the stretch to loosen it. For me it is a tight spot that adheres to the tibia (shin bone). I can’t give you a diagnosis, but if it is a tight spot, perhaps some scar tissue.

I've run plenty of marathons, a lotta miles - and thought I'd seen everything. Sorry, never saw this! Good news is that it doesn't hurt. I'd still check with a knee orthopod to find out what it is.
