Incontinence update 3 1/2 months post Prostatectomy (RP)
If anybody wonders how is Mr Surf doing in that department (and also as an encouragement for future RP patents) - his incontinence is almost resolved.
At this point the "amount" is 2 to 14 ml in 24 hours. So, his max is one tea-spoon in 24 hours lol, which, I am sure, would not even be noticed if it was not so diligently measured and recorded XP, since according to what I heard from "guy talk" some droplets are always "there" regardless of wiping and "shaking" XP - I have no practical knowledge about that phenomenon - so forgive me if I overheard those jokes wrongly.
He is skipping his Kegel's exercises ( naughty , naughty) and he did all of the exercises alone so far and still had great results.
So, if you have initial incontinence it does not mean that it will stay there forever. It will most probably steadily improve over just couple of months and than be gone.
Also, improvement does not happen in strait line but in sudden jumps (or better said dips ) and that I find very interesting. It would be, for example, 14 - 26 ml for 2 or 3 weeks and than "boooom"- all of the sudden (literary over night lol ) it is 2-14 !!! It was like that from the beginning - like R&D in "uro department" is working on debugging software and than - tadaaaaah - NEW AND IMPROVED shut off installed this morning ! Fascinating indeed : ).
Best wishes and hugssss to allll !!! < 3

2 ReactionsI had been pestering my Husband to order the diapers before we went for the catheter removal. He didn't. I was so stressed about the delay in the pathology report that I totally forgot. Come catheter removal day, in comes the Surgeon and first question was "ready with the diaper? Nurse is going to remove the catheter now". I offered to run down to the pharmacy and get them diapers while the nurse did the catheter, but Doctor laughed and said "dont bother, he would have peed down the floor by the time you come back. Better ask the Nurse for one" and left. The sweet young nurse got us one but it was totally wasted cause he didn't leak a drop!! Doctor was pleasantly surprised when he heard. Thank God for small (or should I say big?) mercies!

Ha ha, yes, if some divination lady told us in our twenties that we would one day be tremendously happy that our husbands don't need diapers, we would probably swing that crystal ball out of her tent and demand instant refund for inventing such stuff ; ) !
I am more excited about his progress ( for his sake ) than he is - he just laughed and said :" I told you so" ... He was not bothered by pads one bit. As long as he could do all the stuff that he likes to do, he was super happy.
Yes dear Shalom - thanks God for all little and big miracles in our lives < 3 !

3 ReactionsYes, likewise, for me, about two months post-surgery, I find that my continence does improve overall, but periodically, for a few days I seem to go retrograde in progress, which isn't linear.
Just gotta "go with the flow", I guess!

Ha ha haaaa - good one ; ) !!! XP
Yes, exactly like that ! Beside surprisingly long stretches of good days, there is always a day when one is bewildered with unexplainable "B-" grade XP
He than blames me for making him burst in unexpected burst of laughter - but hey, laughter is medicine - right ? Luckily good days over time become a norm and small squirts real rarity.
I am so glad to hear that you are doing great : ))) ! Thanks for stopping by : ) and for the update of your progress : )
@surftohealth88
Surfer, you made me double up with laughter visualising that wild scene with the Divination lady!!
:):):)
I am still smiling days later....

2 ReactionsSurf Great news about your hubby! 🙂 I dribble but that's not a big deal and occasionally I will stand up and have a little leakage. I discussed that with my doctor and he said that almost every male has that after a certain age. Your hubby sounds like he's done a fantastic job! 🙂

Thanks Jay < 3 ! Nice to hear from you today : )), and I am happy that you progressed really well too ! You are still recovering and things will get even better - I am sure of that ! Thanks for the update : )))
Yes, many people have tiny incontinence, in general population ( 33%) , both genders, it is not a big deal at all. Older women have 75% incidence !!! Who cares after all, tiny pad just to keep it off one's mind and than enjoying life - right ? : )))
Yours is really minor : )), it might very well completely resolve in the next couple of moths : )
Good news for you and your hubbie since it shows there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.
As for me, I have seen a Physical Therepist for about 6 weeks (once a week), and have been doing pelvic floor and kegel exercises everyday. I do have pre-existing OAB symptoms so I am dealing with two issues at the same time. Instead of seeing steady improvement, my situation gets worse some days, so I am very frustrated, but your husband's case gives me some hope.

I can definitely see how OAB symptoms can interfere with speed of recovery. I am happy to hear that my husband's progress gave you some comfort and I know that is is hard but try to keep in mind that good % of patients need up to a year to resolve incontinence problems.
I know that you are very diligent and organized person and very disciplined so I hope you will not mind me asking - do you weight your pads "before and after" and log incontinence amount ? My husband is doing that and it helped him notice a general trend which was encouraging to see.
I bought him tiny digital scale at Amazon and you just need to weight a pad in grams before you use it and than after you take it out. Deduct the initial weight of a dry pad from total and you will get information of how many grams of urine you did leak. One gram equals one ml . Also, weight every pad before use, don't assume that they are all equal in weight - they are not.
Wishing you speedy and fast forward complete resolution of incontinence !
PS: Do you use any OTC or real meds for help with OAB : ( ?
