What equipment did you use for incontinence after prostate surgery?

Posted by mikaylar @mikaylar, Jul 4, 2023

I am writing or a friend. He had prostate surgery 3 months ago. Does anyone know of equipment he could use other than diapers or pads? He has tried a few external catheters but they all leak or kink. Thank you.

Did your friend have prostate surgery for cancer or a different prostate issue?

You did not mention this, but I strongly urge having Pelvic Floor PT. I did several weeks of this before and was fully continent. If there is a Baylor Scott & White clinic near, I recommend them heartily. I’m sorry your friend has to go through this. I wish him all the best.

Mine was for cancer and now I am being treated for possible migration in the lymph nodes. To boot during the prostatectomy surgery they took out scar tissue from a previous colon surgery and this was just after bladder surgery for tumors. My biggest problem now is the incontinence going into its 12 week.

To do my Kegels at home, as I learned the different ways to incorporate them into various core-building exercises, I bought a “resistance band set” from Amazon, very similar to what I used at the BS&W clinic. Copy this description “Whatafit Resistance Bands Set, Exercise Bands with Door Anchor, Handles, Carry Bag, Legs Ankle Straps for Resistance Training, Physical Therapy, Home Workouts” and search Amazon. It’s a $40 kit today (just checked) at $23. I still use them - my surgery was 8/23/2022. I wish some doctor had advised him on this PT before the surgery. Keep me posted, please. Good Luck!
