I’m both T1 and T2, is it worth going to Mayo’s for eval?

Good experience getting evaluated at Mayo in Rochester?

@michchris Hello and welcome to Mayo Connect. I like the introduction - my husband has bee referred to as a "Type 1 1/2" by his Internist.

I would say whether you need to consult Mayo depends upon whether you feel you are getting good care and advice from your current provider(s). Are they answering all your questions, monitoring your A1C and other bloodwork every 3 months, and watching for complications related to diabetes like eye, circulation and heart issues.

How long have you been living with diabetes?

I cannot get into the local endocrinologist and my internist doesn’t seem to know what to do for me. The specialist an hour away isn’t taking patients until January. I’ve been on insulin since April when my blood sugars were found to be in the 300-500 range all day , despite having normal fbs in the mornings, which is the only number my doctor was concerned with.

What are your blood sugars like now? If my husband was anywhere near that range, his doc would be all over it, so I would say you are right to be considering alternatives.

If you want to look for care at Mayo, here is the link to start application the process:

A word of caution though - it seems like the entire medical system is having delays, so there may be a wait at Mayo as well.
