@michchris Hello and welcome to Mayo Connect. I like the introduction - my husband has bee referred to as a "Type 1 1/2" by his Internist.

I would say whether you need to consult Mayo depends upon whether you feel you are getting good care and advice from your current provider(s). Are they answering all your questions, monitoring your A1C and other bloodwork every 3 months, and watching for complications related to diabetes like eye, circulation and heart issues.

I cannot get into the local endocrinologist and my internist doesn’t seem to know what to do for me. The specialist an hour away isn’t taking patients until January. I’ve been on insulin since April when my blood sugars were found to be in the 300-500 range all day , despite having normal fbs in the mornings, which is the only number my doctor was concerned with.
