I'm alive and back!

Posted by jayhall @jayhall, 1 day ago

Hello all! I'm back and as promised I'm updating everyone. I don't have my Path report yet, but I'm doing well. The surgery went well without any complication and I spent one night in the hospital where I got really good care. I'm still bruised and have some swelling but the main thing is that I have recovered almost all continence and the surgeon was able to do a great deal of nerve sparing. I have the occasional leak but I'm counting this as success. My brain, bladder and bowels are still sorting out what it feels like post surgery but even that's not a big deal. Overall I feel much better than before the surgery. Once again thanks for all your support. 🙂 As soon as I get the path report I will post.

You say your continence is back but if you had an RP you have a catheter. So did you get your surgery done eight or nine days ago and have a catheter out already? That would be great news that you are having no issues. So many report problems.

My cath is out I had a "void trial" 7 days after my surgery and I passed. I'm peeing almost normal except the little dribble after. The Pads I bought are too thick to fit in my underwear and I'm going to get some very thin pads for day night use to help with the leakage.

I had SBRT and incontinence was not a problem. However, during the times that I had to urinate frequently, before a long drive, I put on a pad -- just in case I had the urge and could not make a quick stop to say gas station. I never thought of putting an underwear on outside the pad. I thought the pad was enough, no problem with the regular long pants.

Glad to hear everything went well. I will be there three weeks from now. What does « a great deal of nerve sparing » mean? Was the surgeon able to do full nerve sparing on both sides? I was told that because of Gleason 8 the best scenario would be full on one, partial on the other, most affected, side.

Yeaayyyy !!! I am so happy for you : )))) !!! I am sure you will be "like new" in no time and I am sending "special vibes" for the pathology report to come clean as a whistle ! ; )

Best wishes for continuous speedy recovery < 3 Keep us posted 🙂 !!!

Welcome back. Another survivor & another continence success story.

and reassure John that a 7-day catheter removal isn't all that bad.

I was fortunate with only moderate side effects during 6 weeks of EBRT. I bought some Depends, and never used them. But I did take to keeping an empty plastic peanut butter jar (with lid) and a small towel in my car at all times - my "portable urinal," with the towel for "modesty" if I was stuck in traffic. Never had to use it, but was more at ease knowing it was there.
