Ileostomy reversal with 6 inches of colon left
My dad had to have emergency surgery where they removed majority of is colon. He has about 6-8 inches left. Emergency surgery was from cardiac arrest so his colon was healthy beforehand.
He currently has an ileostomy and is interested in reversal surgery.
I see online people saying the first 1-3 months is rough with urgent bathroom trips 15-20 times a day. I know it’s possible your colon doesn’t adjust to the loss of your colon but does anyone have a similar situation and had a positive outcome from reversal?

Hi @mmcoco, and welcome to Connect.
You may already have read through some the discussions here, but here is one on ostomy reversal
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/ostomy-reversal/
While I did not have any colon left, I did have continence without urgency with my j-pouch, so I image it's possible with some remaining colon.
We have a monthly virtual meeting hosted by one of the Mayo WOCNs that you or your father might be interested in.
