IgM MGUS and newly infected with Covid

Husband was diagnosed in 2019. It has been characterized as smoldering MGUS by his hematologist.
This past week he got his first infection with Covid. He had the original vaccine and 2 boosters (4 immunizations total) He chose to forego more boosters because everything wipes him out.
His primary care is useless. He was seen in Urgent Care, put on Paxlovid and his temp is up and down, lots of coughing now, mucous production, and he's used some OTC products to help with cough. He is barely staying hydrated; sips of water with the Paxlovid and finally had some chicken noodle soup last night after 72 hours not eating anything.
I messaged his hematologist via patient portal. Radio silence.
Other than palliative care of water, OTC meds, and chicken noodle soup, I am at a standstill at this point. I do know if his fever exceeds 104 that's Emergency Room sick. It has gone no higher than 103.5
His pulse ox, BP and HR, lung sounds were ok at UC on Monday.
Any words of wisdom? He's stubborn and difficult patient when he is this ill.

Hi @terry1976 Is it a male trait to be such difficult patients when they’re ill? I have one of those at home myself! LOL
I’m sorry to hear your husband got Covid. You did the right thing with taking him to Urgent Care if he didn’t receive help from his primary doctor. From my understanding it’s important when someone who is immune compromised has Covid that they receive Paxlovid to lessen the symptoms and duration of the virus.
There are several discussions in the forum with other members who have taken Paxlovid and share their experiences. Hopefully you can find some insight as to what to expect.

It does sound like your husband’s improving with being able to eat now and his lungs are clear, so that’s good! I haven’t had Covid (yet) but as others have mentioned in the forum, there’s a lengthy recovery time.
But you’d sure like some definitive direction. It’s frustrating not to hear anything from his oncologist through the portal.

Can you call the office instead and speak with a nurse?
