Ideas that may help with neuropathy

Posted by grobles @grobles, 5 days ago

I don't have a cure (I'm told there isnt one), but I would like to share some things I found that helped me with the neuropathy in my feet.

I've tried Gabapentin and now on Pregabalin. Neither of course fix anything and I didn't believe either did anything until I stopped taking it. It takes the edge off but thats it.

In bed is when things were worst, thrashing about but I found that applying a liberal amount of Diclofenac cream helped quite a bit. Two different forms of take the edge off working together.

My biggest surprize however comes from compression socks. The ones I have are full foot, knee length. I have taken to wearing them all the time. No thrashing about at night at all and less discomfort when walking (with foot wear on!). I started out with the sensation of "walking on marbles" and I blame statins for taking me into neuropathy. Bare or stockinged foot now feels like walking on rocks!

Which brings me on to footwear.
If like me you're getting a little unstable in trainers, I find that well fitting walking / hiking boots that come up just above the ankle make the world of difference to stability. Of course a decent insole helps too.

Hope this onformation is helpful to someone.

I also wear light compression socks from morning to night. I do take them off when I go to sleep. I was told not to wear them when I sleep. I can't walk well without them because I really need the support. I wear supportive sneakers all day long and that helps a lot! I have been taking statins for many years. My PCP says my neuropathy has nothing to do with statins. I had back surgery for spinal stenosis a year ago and that's when the neuropathy started. The reurosurgeon said I waited too long to have the surgery and my nerves were already in bad shape. Thinking of taking R-ALA... afraid it will give me problems but many people have had success with it.

Neuropathy happens to all of us, and relief varies person to person.
I am type 2 diabetic, over weight and get tingling in my feet. I drink chamomile tea at night to make sure I sleep and don’t wake up often. I also eat super beets gummies in the morning after breakfast, which opens up blood vessels. If my legs are too active at night, I have a 25 lb weighted blanket that helps.
My goal is to resolve as naturally as possible. Taking meds is a hit or miss, with side effects.
I also wear compression socks daily and take them off when I sleep.
