ID Dr leaving suddenly
Not really a question but I had a follow up yesterday and my ID Dr who I’ve been seeing since October announced that he’s leaving his solo practice. He spent most of the brief appointment advising that he’s leaving and therefore none of his outstanding orders will work after next month. He did give me refills on my meds but then also said I had to stay on nystatin oral rinse for the duration even though my thrush had resolved. He has a tendency to through out new things in a hurry but with no explanation or details. He has also said I have BE although my pulmonologist has not confirmed it. When I questioned it he explained scarring in the lungs is BE. You have to deal with this and do AC for a lifetime. He then rattled off names for referrals but just told me locations without any recommendations. His comment was that it didn’t really matter as it’s just oversight now I’m clear. Overall a very odd visit. I have checked to see what Drs are on the NTM list, unfortunately the only one somewhat close isn’t taking new patients. I will do more research and may ask for a different referral. Thanks for letting me vent, this kind of threw me despite knowing that people do change providers midway through, and others have lost their Drs like Dr McShane when she relocated.

Doctors face immense pressure these days, let alone trying to operate a solo practice. And who knows what might be going on with him. No one really knows what's going on with people. In some way, he did you a favor by releasing you to find better care. Think of it as an opportunity to improve your care! At least he gave you some referral locations. Hoping that you find excellent care sooner rather than later.
Thank you so much for reframing this for me. It really helps and gets me out of my head. I appreciate your feedback.
If you reach out through this group and are willing to let people know where you are located, you may get a good referral from people on this chat.
I have learned SO much from everyone sharing their journey with BE.
