IBS-C: What to eat? Not terribly interested in food anymore.
I am in my late 60's and have dealt with GI issues for many years.
I don't have the best nutrition--between food not appealing to me, and being scared of certain foods that have caused me problems, I just don't know what to eat. I am not losing weight, but some days I don't eat much.
I have GE reflux, and gastritis. I've not gotten very far with my GI provider. I've thought of seeing a dietician or nutritionist. I'm thinking I need to keep simple meals around and eat them whether I want to or not.
Anybody else just not interested in food anymore?

Hi Norma: I am not interested in any food that I have to prepare. But if I go out or someone else makes it, I eat just fine and love it. Of course that's expensive. I am exploring the meal programs that deliver to you at home. Maybe there is one that would peak your appetite? Good Luck.
Hi, @normagal - tagging a few members who've talked about IBS-C to see what they have to say about what to eat in light of food not appealing and certain foods having caused problems @elfergin @samynabeel @jackiem95. @smezaael @savvyme1 @researchmaven and @jlharsh also may have some thoughts for you.

2 ReactionsI would ask my doctor for further testing if it starts effecting your weight , it could be something else happening.

1 ReactionThe foods that I have found that make my IBS-C worse are: chocolate, all dairy (including yogurt and kefir), and even one grain of salt (or any amount of any kind of sodium including stool softeners unfortunately since they're sodium).

2 ReactionsThank you for tagging me @lisalucier. It is nice to meet you @normagal
It would not take much convincing to get me to admit I am plain tired of eating. However, I know I won’t acknowledge that feeling for long. A, I know if don’t keep up with my eating I will feel much worse, and B, I have some momentum figuring out enough foods I think make me feel better and I can’t give up heading that direction.
My personality is one that gets beyond frustrated spending a lot of effort toward something over and over again and not making progress. My approach to food has been to figure out what I want to accomplish and how to get it done the easiest way possible, and I am making progress. Slow, but steady progress. I used to make deconstructed meals and invite others so everyone could pick and choose. That got too difficult so now I focus on just what I need.
I love your thoughts of getting a nutritionist or dietician to help you and keeping simple foods around. My new and current simple go-to is dates stuffed with a mixture of chopped almonds/almond butter, honey, vanilla, chia paste. It’s not quite the same as bacon-wrapped goat cheese stuffed dates, but my body loves them so I am addicted.
I am curious what you would like to accomplish. You may start to gain momentum with your motivation by addressing one thing at a time that uses some creativity (or something new) and you can build on.
You mention having a GI provider and dealing with both reflux and gastritis. What have you tried that has helped? What is the #1 thing that would help to address right now?

1 ReactionHi. I am new to this group and thank you for accepting me. I have been suffering from worsening abdominal pain and back pain (possibly referred pain) for several months. All tests results are normal but the pain and is so severe that it lasts the whole day. After passing a stool (happens daily as I take Lascon for a "lazy" gut) the pain intensifies and I have cramps for 4-5 hours afterwards. I often feel nauseous from the pain. After I eat any foods (even low-fodmap) I get abdominal pain and my gut is "unhappy" the whole day so no trigger foods. The gastroenterologist says I have a "spastic colon" and has prescribed pregabalin which has had no effect so far after 2 weeks. All anti-spasmotics have no effect. Any suggestions if pain is worse after bowel action and all foods cause abdominal pain? Really desperate to get some help!

3 ReactionsI made a new recipe this week that has spurred some energy and creative thinking! I liked it, my husband who typically doesn’t eat what I eat….really liked it. It was hearty, flavorful and my body liked it.

I think I am going to hit ‘reset’ and intentionally try a new recipe once a week. Anyone else? If you try Cracked Wheat Chili, what do you think?
