Ibrance and Liver Lesions: What's your experience?

Posted by trivia @trivia, Jun 24, 2020

Hi Folks, Just went on Ibrance (1 session so far and on my 2nd). Lesions in my liver are a tiny bit bigger in 2 months. I have been told they will get larger first and then start to get smaller. What's been your experience? Also, the nausea; has anyone had it both in the morning and at night? Thanks everyone!

I started Ibrance and Letrozole a week ago on March 14. First couple of days ok. But since then I feel very weak with no energy. All I really can do is sleep, appetite is gone and I feel like it’s hard to breath. Are these normal reactions to the Ibrance and Letrozole. I didn’t feel like this with the verzenio and anastrozole. I didn’t have the feeling of limited breathing and just wanting or falling asleep anywhere. Am I on drugs that are not for me. Please let me know if anyone has had same symptoms as I have. Thanks

I agree with @mdr3 please call your doctor right away and ask them if his is normal. If there is a problem, it is better addressed before it becomes an emergency. I have heard tired is a thing but the breathing is a bit concerning.

I did call Dr office yesterday afternoon. Received call this morning from Dr. Office and nurse told me to stop the meds Ibrance and Letrozole until I am seen by the Dr. on Friday. Thanks for the concern.

Welcome, @mglinkhart. I'm tagging a few other MBC folks who also have experience with Ibrance, like @mhsosa @eku @carbut58 @claudiamaria @hockeymom25 @elizm @trivia @pampurr. Hopefully they can share their experiences, especially when starting the drug.

@mglinkhart, you've been on the medication for just over a week now. Has the abdominal and back pain subsided? Did you report it to your oncologist or symptom management nurse? How are you doing?

I ended up
Switching g the times around for when I take my meds and it has helped. I take my Anastrozole in the morning and the Ibrance at dinner and it seems to even things out a bit. Even the nausea has lessened. Every day is a new challenge. Yesterday I woke with terrible headache in my eyes. To
Move my eye was so very painful lasted all day but I’m fine today. But I’m still here so hoping today will be a good day. Thank you for contacting me. It is very much appreciated.

Hi @mglinkhart, Unfortunately, Ibrance didn't work for me. After 2 months of being on it, the scan showed my liver tumors had increased exponentially. So I went on Piqray. That was over the course of a year. I had digestion issues and eventually my hair started falling out. I found out later I had Neuroendocrine Breast Cancer (rare) so these treatments didn't work. Sometimes, when you start a drug, if the tumors are dying, they expand slightly. That can cause pain. I would give it a few more weeks to be sure if its working and do a blood test with cancer markers.
Good luck!

Dr. Took me off of Ibrance. She now has me on Kosqali and anastrozole. But because I have such hard time accepting meds, she changed the prescription. Instead of taking three kisqali at once for three weeks. She now wants me to take one kisqali daily for two weeks, take a week break and then start again the process. I am continuing with the anastrozole daily. I don’t know what else she can have me try. Verzenio and Ibrance my body would not tolerate. I am also going to get the xgeva shot for the bones every six months. Receive The first shot in July. Zomeda really messed up my teeth. Any ideas or issues you see with my plan, please let me know. I had been in unbearable pain, especially my back. Dr recommended kypnoplasty surgery. I have to admit it helped a lot with the spine pain. Had surgery in June and so far my pain is no longer as immense as before surgery.

Hi @trivia, @colleenyoung tagged me on your post as I also took Ibrance. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to offer much to the conversation as I only took five cycles before an MRI revealed extensive liver lesions, and the decision was made to move on to a chemo drug instead. It was quite a surprise as previous CT’s only showed a handful of lesions that we were following and those appeared to remain stable during the time I was on Ibrance. We had to take the approach that Ibrance was not working, but to be fair, there is no way of knowing if it did or not since we don’t know how long the degree of lesions have been there. One of the characteristics of my lobular breast cancer is that it doesn’t present itself well on imaging, and it appears in the case of my liver, we needed the detail of the MRI to see what was really going on. Best wishes to you - I hope your next scans show your lesions are decreasing in size!
