Just diagnosed with Evans syndrome: Genetic testing?

I am concerned about my kids, grandkids , and great grandkids. What does anyone suggest about being tested.

Welcome to Mayo Connect, Tom. When you’re handed a new diagnosis it can feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you. Evan’s syndrome is an autoimmune disease…which in a nutshell means something has triggered a response in your immune system to destroy your own blood cells. Which certainly isn’t in its best interest.

From my understanding Evans Syndrome is often treated similarly to other autoimmune diseases as it involves specific cells in the immune system that set up the body’s defense…B-Cells. Medications may be given help tone down the immune response and to support your immune system.

Knowledge is power! There are a number of articles online but this one from Cleveland clinic is a credible source with some reassuring information on this disease.

What has your doctor discussed with you as far as treatment? What were your symptoms leading up to the diagnosis?

I say go for it… I think it’s done through a blood test. Test your kids first then if doc deems it necessary grandkids
