I recently had a lumbar epidural of L5 vertebrae

i had a Cortisone shot about two months ago. it seemed to work for a couple of days. also for a bulging disc at L5 also. it did not hurt like yours. but then again, he did not hit a nerve. so maybe it's good he did with you. also how long ago did you have this done? so hard to tell with something like this. i hope he did not do anything irreversible to you. sadly only time will tell. good luck. please keep me informed. d 🏳️‍🌈

Your procedure should have been done under anesthesia!
I had one done while awake & had a similar experience that you had. After that, I insisted on being sedated
or no go!
By the way, that procedure & the others I had did nothing for the pain. I have just had an MRI with a new dr. and am hoping she will have something new to torture me with.

Time for a second opinion. PRONTO!

I have had so many epidurals, I have lost track. Seems the "go to" thing for pain docs. I tell them, "I've had them before. They have not worked". They say, "Well, let's give it another "shot" (pun intended).

I had an MRI 1/24/24 which showed an acute compression fracture of L1 Vertebrae. Because I was having so much pain down my butt into my legs, the ortho spine doctor I went to decided that the best plan of action was to let the compression fracture heal on its own but to treat the pain below the waist with a lumbar epidural since MRI also showed stenosis at the L4 and L5 vertebrae. At that time there was no acute pain at the fracture site so this plan of action made sense at the time. After the bad results with the epidural I did get a second opinion from a physical medicine doctor 2 weeks ago. He sent me to get a consult with a spine doctor re: need for a possible kyphoplasty for L1 compression fracture as the last 8 weeks that has been causing a lot of pain also. It's very complicated and possibly now outside the window if kyphoplasty will even be effective for L1 pain. It's been a downhill slide.

He did use local anesthesia. I didn't realize that was an option to be put under. My biggest fear is that he caused permanent long term damage. It's just not normal to feel like you have a jolt of lightning go down your butt and leg and feel like it's coming out your foot during a procedure of any kind but especially when they're working with the spine.

I had it done 1/27/24 by pain management dr. That's my biggest fear - permanent damage. Knowing what I know now. I would have never consented to it.

I just got the results back from my MRI that was taken on my lower back. I was in severe pain, (had to take codeine meds.) could not walk without a walker or Rollator, and still cannot stand for more than 5 minutes. I still am in bad pain, not severe though, but just bad!
Now what? I haven't seen the doctor yet, but I bet she will say that there is nothing that she can do.
