I need a physician that can help me transition off Prolia.

I have been on Prolia now for four years. I would like to transition off this drug. I am very concerned about its long term side effects side effects. I have been told twice by two different practitioners to just stop and take calcium. I know that you just can’t do that. I have a cousin that did that and she fractured her neck. I have no transition plan.

This video talks about Prolia and how to transition off. This may be of some help.

Prof. Bente Langdahl, a leading expert on Prolia discontinuation, gave a talk on “Management of Patients Discontinuing Denosumab (Prolia)” at the 2024 Santa Fe Bone Symposium. It’s a helpful overview of the key considerations when stopping Prolia and typical strategies used. Worth a look, and something to discuss with your physicians to make sure any plan aligns with current expert approaches

analynn, the safest exit from Prolia is Reclast. Any endocrinologist would/should be able to prescribe it. You'll want to look at the side effects first. It is best to have a slower infusion and a 4mg rather than a 5mg dose.
You might be able to take an oral bisphosphonate, but you'd want to follow that with bone markers CTX in case you needed the stronger bisphosphonate that is Reclast.
I'm so glad you know that you can't just stop Prolia and take calcium. Did you get this advice from the prescribing doctor. That's scary. I hope you keep posting.

There are also relevant threads on this MayoConnect site and many postings contain valuable evidence-supported information. From memory, one is called something like 'Support for those Stopping Prolia' and another is called something like 'Discontinuing Prolia.'

I transitioned with an oral bisphosphenate and it was not enough! Now on Tymlos for 18 months so far with good results. My sister came directly off Prolia with Evenity per our internist who specializes in osteoporosis. I’d say look into those, but the right, knowledgeable doctor is KEY!
