Bleeding: I know what's happening is not normal but is it cancer?

Posted by hildac @hildac, Apr 18, 2023

Google is not my friend right now.
Post menopause 59 yrs old.
Started spotting 5 weeks ago. Was brownish in colour. Has progressed to bleeding and is red.
Ultrasound shows lining at 4mm.
Abnormal amount of fluid in my uterus.
Gyno appt today. She attempted endometrial biopsy but cervix was very narrow. Managed to get a small sample. If it's not enough we'll have to retry in hospital. No polyps observed.
I've had abdominal and lower back ache for about 6 months. Has gotten worse
All this to say I know my symptoms are not normal and much if what I'm reading us suggesting cancer.
Does anyone have any input or experiences to share?

Great conversation ladies.
Good news is that symptoms have gone away for about a week now. I'll be following up with Drs next week in results. Thank you all for such great support ♥️

It took a year of post menopausal spotting and bleeding before a biopsy revealed my cancer. Fortunately it was a slow growing tumor and total hysterectomy removed all the cancer. Surgery was same day robotic and recovery was quick. CAT scan with contrast ruled out spread.

That's what I'm worried about a bit. I've heard a few stories of initial biopsies with bleeding show nothing only to have cancer diagnosed a year later.

Cat scan with contrast would show if their were a tumor and if it were ocalized or in any adjacent organs. . The hysterectomy if done laparoscopically is really not a bad operation. I was amazed at how well it went. I feel much better after getting the uterus and ovaries removed. My spotting was not non stop but intermittent. It is so nice to longer see it or be looking for it. Good luck to you and God bless you.

I had a total hysterectomy when I was 35 years old then started hormone replacement therapy I was unable to have children prior to the hysterectomy. I am now 61 years old and I am still on hormone replacement therapy.
My bleeding commenced in April I had a urinary tract infection a couple of weeks prior to this I suspected it had something to do with that. I had pain on my lower right side lower back pain excruciating pain while urinating with blood this lasted all day. The following morning it had disappeared this happened on another couple of occasions. I also bleed during intercourse red blood and quite a bit. I have spotted red blood off and on most days I finally made an appointment with a female GP early May not my regular GP. Had an internal examination and was told everything looked normal and that for my age I looked really good internally was told it must be because I have been on hormone replacement for so long but not able to explain what is causing the bleeding. Had a CT scan performed nothing was found. I have now made another appointment to see the same female GP in a couple of weeks time I will ask to take a biopsy or Pap smear see if anything will show or change in cells. I have been thinking it could be early stages of cancer. I have had a genetic test for reproductive cancer and yes I have the genes for reproductive cancer and breast cancer. I only had the genetic test performed because my father succumbed to liver cancer when he was 64 and my sister passed away from multiple brain tumours at 56 years old. My other sister at age 63 was diagnosed with multiple myeloma had all treatments the specialist gave her 5 years to live she has just gone past 4 years. My other sister was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer when she was 60 she had radiation treatment and stem cell therapy but refused to have chemotherapy because she was so sick with other treatments. She has made it to 63 she was told if it returns she will not make it. A brother with aggressive prostate cancer he is in his 70s. Has anyone had similar symptoms to mine as I am thinking it could be cancer. Thank you Annie

I'm 50 with stage 3 esophageal cancer... Bleeding below the waist is never normal, healthy,ok. I had many tests done where "everything is normal looking" until another test found the problem . Example: dysphagia which wasn't diagnosed as cancer until more tests were done 10 months into it and me weighing 95 pounds. I had an infection that caused massive blood ejaculations. It was unsettling and took awhile for the docs to detect it . Get checked, checked thoroughly, listen to yourself, take the antibiotics. My issue healed fortunately minus the cancer. Blessings to you.

My ejaculate was brownish or greenish during chemo and when it eventually became blood I knew it wasn't normal, 2weeks of antibiotics cured it(amoxicillin) the side effects were temporary and worth it
