I just started Kevzara and hope to tape of Prednisone.
I live in a retirement home and enjoy social life around joint meals.
With the strong immune suppression of this medication, I wary about
Infection and the lower effectiveness of vaccine while on Kevzara.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Prednisone also has a strong immune suppression effect. Some doctors will say prednisone globally suppresses the immune system whereas Kevzara selectively suppresses a portion of the immune system.
Artificial intelligence states the following:
"The key difference is their mechanism of action: prednisone is a broad-spectrum corticosteroid, while Kevzara is a targeted biologic drug."
My rheumatologist said it is much better for me to be on a biologic medication instead of prednisone. Not everyone will agree so it just becomes a personal choice to make,

As an aside --- be familiar with the side effect of adrenal insufficiency caused by long term prednisone use. It has a lot to do with your ability to taper off prednisone even with Kevzara. Being on both prednisone and Kevzara isn't ideal but hopefully, Kevzara will allow you to taper off Prednisone in a reasonable amount of time.
Thats probably a good concern. The older we get the more susceptible we become. However if you are currently taking prednisone then I believe Kevzara is a step in the right direction. The idea of prescribing Kevzara is to help with treating the PMR through the IL-6 receptor but also to help with the cortisol flare of tapering prednisone. Dr Megan has a video where she describes prednisone is more harmful than any other drug. So if your taking prednisone now and enjoying your friends , I would say your not any worse off taking Kevzara. I am a widow at 73. Laying around the house is not the answer either. Check with your Dr. and maybe you can only be on Kevzara a short amount of time. My PMR was over in 6 months. Enjoy..

I'm no worse off on Actemra ... I like to travel. I have only been to Arizona once or twice and recently stayed in Peoria, I liked Scottsdale and that area. The Frank Lloyd Wright area in Arizona was interesting. I didn't know he wintered in Arizona. I would like to visit the Grand Canyon again. Maybe we could get together sometime.
My md is putting me on that too. Waiting for insurance ok. I know nothing about this so would be interested in knowing more as well.
Thank you all for the very useful information.
