If your numbers are end stage, can you go to a local hospital for hydration while waiting? I did that with my mother when her GFR was 17.

Yes, letters, phone calls, and references from my primary doctor. I never saw a nephrologist. Nor was they referred to one. I came home from my third knee surgery and was relieved when I saw my primary doctor. He said David, I am sorry, but you have end-stage renal failure !!! Out of the Blue ..... So my trust is gone. The doctors here in California are a mess, I am sad to say. So, I am desperately trying to get to Mayo. That was Dec 7th. I called and talked to the Mayo Clinic three days later.
I am on a plant-based diet. I have a wound care nurse for my leg. I am not diabetic, not high blood pressure. I know, and they said it is a kidney failure to take significant rounds for antibiotics from the MRSA I got when I received the knee replacement. I have a good appetite, do not overuse some ayurvedic herbs, and have a dietician trying to hold on. !!! I am now in a wheelchair. 2 years ago, I was dancing. What a wild world. But ham alive, that's all that matters. Thank you so much about calling In morning I will do that Monday morning !!!!!

If you can get a nephrologist they may have more tricks up their sleeves than a primary for your particular situation. They could also have more sway with a Mayo referral. But that could take precious time to establish a new Dr. / patient relationship. Keep that Mayo appointment. It will happen sooner than you think and while waiting you can also work on finding a local nephrologist. You will need someone local in addition to your Mayo provider.

Urology at Mayo is number one in the country and is always so busy. I assume that Nephrology is going to be the same. Even as a current patient there it can be slow to get appointments. I agree with Cheryl that you need a local nephrologist. A referral from your PCP should get you into one faster than just calling yourself. I know waiting is hard, but if you feel you are failing in the meantime, there is always the option of fluid therapy at your hospital via the emergency department. Have you tried the Mayo in Arizona?

@sally86 You don't say what part of California you are in. In the Bay Area, there is North Bay Health https://www.northbay.org/ and they are part of the Mayo Clinic Network. That is, they are in connection with Mayo Clinic. That might be worth a try for you.

If you are in the southern part of the state, I wouldn't hesitate to contact Keck USC or UCLA nephrology departments, or even Cedars Sinai. While they are not part of the Mayo Clinic network, they are each very reputable. Back in 2015, I dealt with both Keck USC and Cedars Sinai, myself.

In reading your post, it sounds like the kidney issue is a result of medications used to treat the MRSA case you had, right? Unfortunately, that can sometimes be the situation, where treating one condition creates another one. But right now, you need support and treatment for where you're at with the kidney issue, pronto!

You have read some great suggestions here, and I look forward to hearing how this all turns out.
