I have been stalking but not commenting! My BMT was changed to 8/7

I had posted I was to have my BMT on 7/11, however, it was changed for two reasons - 1) the donor couldn't provide the Bone Marrow that day and 2) I got a blood infection! With all those antibiotics, anti-fungal - anti this and that how I got it no one knows! I was in the hospital for a week and had lots of tests. Then had to wait a month. I had infusions every day for several weeks, Now I will be heading to BMT in August. I'm excited to get the transplant behind me but still baffled by what and how I got a blood infection!! Has anyone else been cruising along okay and then WHAM in infection?

Hi Susan, I’ve been thinking about you and was actually going to write a note today to check in with you! Oh gosh, I’m sorry for the delay in your BMT! But to answer your question, it’s not uncommon at all to get an infection…hence all those anitbiotics, antifungal, antivirals you’re on…sometimes a ‘bug’ still slips in past that temporary faux immune system! The vulnerability at this point in time makes it easy for any little infection to get a foothold.
It’s incredibly frustrating for sure but hang in there!

With the delay, did you have to change all of your lodging plans as well?

Lori, we had to move to Phoenix earlier as I was in the hospital for a week, then infusions every day for three weeks. We also had to extend at the other end due to the BMT being moved to August. I so want to get on the other side of the transplant. I am feeling really well today actually and getting stronger every day. Thank you for thinking of me
