Lower forearm and wrist pain

Posted by jesiah505 @jesiah505, Feb 21, 2016

I have been having pain in my lower forearm, near my wrist its a dull ache like pain that will come and go and may last 5 minutes at a time, and it is becoming bothersome, its on the ulna side of my forearm, it also hurts if I push my wrist back or put pressure on that hand. There's no tenderness or pain when I touch the spot. And also sometimes I feel the same pain in my hand a little or up near my elbow, basically anywhere along my forearm. This started about 4 or 5 days ago, Ive had the pain in my wrist for quite a while, but the dull pain just started a few days ago. does anyone know what this might be? its becoming troublesome, Thank you.

Hi @jesiah505, and welcome to Connect!

Arm and wrist pain can be very bothersome, and can come from a number of sources. Here is an article from Mayo Clinic that outlines some various possible causes of arm pain, as well as advice on when to see a doctor and some ideas for self care at home: http://www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/arm-pain/basics/definition/sym-20050870. Have you found anything you're doing at home to be helpful with the pain, such as icing?

I tried icing and ibuprofen, and neither of them made it feel any better.

Have you considered making an appointment with a doctor to get it looked at?

My wrist symptoms were very localized to the middle of my wrist but the hand doctor did ask if there was pain up into the forearm and elbow. Seems like he was asking it to rule out certain diagnoses. I recommend you see a doc that knows what he's talking about. My issue turned out to be a ganglion cyst by my lunate bone in my hand (hurt ONLY when my wrist was bent back and especially with pressure on it...like doing a pushup would be impossible). It never got better with R&R and I'm so glad I went in (5 days ago) to get the cyst popped and feeling better!
