Excessive hunger and exhaustion related to pre-diabetes?
Around Valentine’s Day I realized something. Recently I have been so hungry and tired and it’s excessive. When I eat, shortly after, I start sweating and have like a hot wave. I feel cold but then I sweat. I’ve been dizzy a lot recently. I also have been drinking a lot more water and peeing a ton more. A bit of background about me: I am 15 and I am 5’6 and weigh 150. I have an incurable kidney disease and I have to take blood pressure meds for my high blood pressure. Diabetes runs in my family and I have pre diabetes. Could I possibly have diabetes now? I’m just concerned and last time I got my glucose levels checked, my doctor said they were a bit high. (I usually don’t eat many sweets)

Also, I recently have been eating sweeties from Valentine’s Day. I’m hoping that didn’t effect me much but I’m concerned. I just don’t want diabetes because then it will be harder on my kidneys and that means I will soon have to have a kidney transplant. 🙁 should I check with the doctors?
@iella0 Hello and let's see if we can get some answers. My name is Carol, and I am not a doctor, but I have Diabetes 2. My first concern is if you have told your parents about your reactions? Are they aware that you are having these problems? SInce you have kidney disease, I assume you see a urologist to help you manage this condition. Perhaps some of your symptoms are from your kidneys and some from eating the wrong foods (you need or don't need) to help your body deal with all that you have going on. Do you see your family doctor or a specialist? A dietician could help you with your food choices so that you would could select foods that are helpful. There are many things you can do to help doctors figure out what is causing all of your different symptoms. Can you tell your mom you need to see a doctor?
Let me know what your doctor says

@iella0 hi Ella. If you just ate too many sweets for a day or two it will of course cause your numbers to go up, for you to urinate more, and to be thirsty. You should definitely get this checked by your doctor, it may be as easy as going for a blood test. More than likely if you are back to a more healthy diet this will improve. Please let us know how this turns out.

@jellaO I’m sorry you have been experiencing the symptoms you describe and that you have an incurable kidney disease. The symptoms you describe are typical of diabetes but a one time sweets indiscretion is not likely to cause diabetes. However, you are wise to be concerned since you already know that you are prediabetic, have a family history of diabetes and your last glucose tests were a bit high. Diabetes and high blood pressure are two of the most common causes of kidney problems. I would get it checked out if I were you. If there’s a problem, the sooner you find out the sooner you can start taking care of it and protecting your kidneys.
I had no idea anyone replied to me. Thank you. I did tell my mum about my problems and every time I do she doesn’t take me seriously. Yes I go to the doctor often for many issues I deal with but for some reason I haven’t had any recent oppintments. I still haven’t been to the doctor but I’ve noticed that I’ve been sick a lot recently. I get very faint and have lots of hot flashes and some days I can’t look around because I’m extremely dizzy. It happens every like 5 days. I’m still very very tired and extremely thirsty often
Thank you so much for the response. Yeah, I often get worried about me getting Diabetes because my doctor told me to take Caden of myself so I don’t get them. I am not sure what diet I should do that lowers my glucose levels or which diet is best for my blood pressure. Thank you.
Oh and I’ve had changes in my urine. It’s very cloudy and foggy looking.
@iella0 You do not indicate when your next scheduled appointment with your doctor is, but with these changes I think you should try to get an appointment very soon. Obviously, something is going on.
To lower glucose stay away from sweets and keep carbs to a minimum. I believe the generally recommended number is about 45 gms per meal, and two snacks of 15 gm. I am not a doctor though, so perhaps that varies more than I realize. There are a number of free trackers that you can get either online or on your smartphone that will keep track of your carbs. That would be a start, particularly if you cannot get in to see your doctor soon.

Hi @iella0, I agree with the other members that with these recent changes, you should see your doctor. Your doctor might also suggest an appointment with a nutritionist to help you learn what foods are best for you.

Thank you, I will take that into consideration. I have a doctors appointment next coming Tuesday! With my kidney specialist but they will check my blood and glucose levels.
