I wouldn't assume this is cancer unless there is some history here you have't added. An ear/nose/throat specialist can probably help you but I imagine a primary care physician or even an urgent care clinic could help you get started on figuring it out. Is the medicine pain killers or something that was prescribed, like an antibiotic? Did you have radiation or treatment to that area? Hope you get some answers.

Agree. There is so much going around...strep, and viruses. My whole class has been coughing for over a month. The suggestion given is sound.

Keep us posted.

As said by others, don’t assume that it’s cancer!

However, 8 years ago I had chronic sharp pain in my left ear and swallowing food was getting difficult.
My primary physician at the time diagnosed it as TMJ and sent me to an ENT. The ENT scoped me and concurred it to be TMJ.
My pain continued to get worse and swallowing became more difficult.
I returned (on a Wednesday)to the primary physician but this time I had a lump in my neck. He again said TMJ and deemed the lump as a swollen saliva gland and sent me back to the ENT on the following Monday.
Thankfully I had a dentist visit on the Thursday, the day after my primary doctor visit.
The first thing my dentist did was feel the lump on my neck and asked how long it’s been there. I told him several weeks but my doctor said it was a swollen saliva gland and that I also have TMJ.
He replied that I don’t have saliva glands in that area and proceeded to inspect my mouth and tongue.
He found a tumor in my throat and tongue and said I don’t have TMJ and that I need a biopsy and scan ASAP.
I told him that I see the ENT on Monday and he called my ENT and told him to forget about TMJ and scope my throat, get a biopsy and CTSCAN.
Well long story short…I was in stage IV cancer!!!!

An unrelenting pain should be pursued until a correct diagnosis is reached. Eleven years ago I saw my PCP and three ear, nose, and throat specialists before requesting a referral to a big medical school hospital for an ear pain of months duration. There I was diagnosed with a skin cancer in my ear causing chronic sharp pain as it grew into the surrounding bone of my skull. Sometimes you need to travel to a higher quality referral type facility to get your care. Good luck to you.

This sounds like a very difficult time--I'm so sorry to hear it. Do you feel it is time for a specialist in ears and throat who may have more to offer and can take a closer look, possibly with a scope? Thanks for checking in. I think you've got a batch of responses and I hope you can find some solutions.

@faiqa1122, I agree with other members that you need answers. It sounds like your GP has ruled out several common ailments that may be causing this pain or pressure. But it might be time to ask for a referral to an ENT specialist (ear, nose and throat) for further expert investigation and testing.

I can imagine that feeling anxious about these symptoms makes them feel even worse. Are you able to get an appointment soon to ask for a referral? Is going to Mayo Clinic an option for you?
