Hydrogen water or tablets: any benefits for kidneys?

Posted by digital1 @digital1, Feb 18, 2025

My eGfr ranges from 52 To 60. I have blood test every three months and these numbers have been over a two year period. My regiment is 8 glasses of water daily and about 1-2 miles walk M-F. My first glass of liquid to start the day is a 16 oz glass of half water, half diet cranberry juice, teaspoonful of pure honey, tablespoon full of apple cider vinegar, and small lemon squeeze. Other seven glasses of liquid is pure water. Does anyone drink or take hydrogen tablets or liquid and is there any benefit for kidneys

When I first saw the title of your discussion it reminded of an OLD advertisement for something called “Doan’s Kidney Pills’ (I think). They were supposed to be helpful for kidney issues or back pain in the area of the kidneys. Haven’t heard of it in ages.
I have no idea what hydrogen water is or hydrogen tablets for that matter. Hydrogen itself is, after all part of the chemical formula for water (H2O) if I remember my high school chemistry correctly Your description of the concoction you make in your first 16 oz glass of water sounds interesting. It reminds me of something I often refer to as “might help, can’t hurt”.

I've seen discussions about Hydrogen water in various places. I will be curious on any posts regarding this. Sadly, I don't have any strong information on this, only the claims out there that it may be beneficial.

Do these containers work? Do tablets work? I have stage 3 kidney disease and want to try and be more proactive. I don’t want to waste my money though. Any advice?

In my own personal opinion, plain water is still the best. How long have you been diagnosed with Stage 3? Do you know the cause of your kidney disease?

Wonder how hydrogen can be in a pill form. Does not make sense in terms of chemistry although of course there was the hydrogen bomb -wasn’t it compressed gas and explosive

@gingerw A few years. I stared at stage A progressed to B and my numbers fluctuacted up and down. My doctors were never really concerned about it. I just had a bladder Ct Scan. Creatine a bit high and Urea slightly high.

@jesler1 Determining the underlying cause of progressing kidney disease is important as you get a handle on this. The two top causes of CKD is diabetes and high blood pressure, and getting those issues addressed, and treated, is important. Other causes can be side effects of medications, use of NSAIDS, lifestyle choices, or hereditary conditions. Once you have that figured out, it will help you figure out the best path for you.
